I am CONFUSED about Lordship theology

Even though you were saved out of RCCism, you don't have a problem pontificating at all, I see. I might disagree and say repeating a prayer is never good. But that's not even the issue. To say outright that LS is wrong is quite bold. Especially since you demonstrate a position that I...

I am CONFUSED about Lordship theology

I'm not sure how that was conveyed. I am saying dedication to Jesus is exactly what "faith" in Jesus means. The dedication or "faith" is bestowed upon the person by God. It is monergistic IMO. Therefore, forsaking all to follow Jesus is the equivalent to faith in Jesus. That can only happen...

I am CONFUSED about Lordship theology

This is where Calvinism and LS go hand in hand together. I agree, what easy-believism "convert" is going to do all that Jesus required of his disciples? None! But how about the person whose heart has been changed by God, who has been granted repentance??? That person will follow Christ and...

I am CONFUSED about Lordship theology

I think it is interesting that in Jesus' presentation of his gospel, he warned people before they started to follow him. He said that followers should "count the cost". I think that makes it obvious what is expected of discipleship to Jesus. And Jesus only "accepted" disciples, not "converts".

Men Lifting Holy Hands in Prayer

I believe this to be idiomatic and has the connotation of purity in life. Lifting clean hands is a way to speak of the heart of the person praying. I would advise checking commentators on this.

was there An "official" baptist eschatological position?

I don't think it precludes premill eschatology. Not if you think of a general resurrection in terms of the thing rather than the event. That all, righteous and wicked, will be resurrected one day even premill's agree. If that is the point of, then this is just as consistent w/ the abstract...

was there An "official" baptist eschatological position?

Can you explain this... cause I don't see it in there. But I did read it very quickly. http://www.sbts.edu/about/truth/abstract/

was there An "official" baptist eschatological position?

Pick me!!! (though I'm not quite as much preterist as you, Tom)

    Where did you read this???

    Where is the GATE located?

Would it not be a similar although much more difficult saying such as Jesus claiming to be the way, truth, and life???

    Exegesis alone will not work

I appreciate what you are saying here, but my beef is that interpretation is a spiral. Every time you read the text anew, you do so w/ new motives, persuasions, and predilections. You also have to exegete one text in order to compare it to another text. And so in that sense, exegesis alone is...

    Preaching Bible

I like your thinking for your situation... go with the NKJV, I say.

    Five questions??

I think you are allowing your systematic theology to drive your understanding of the text too much. Spiritual death and separation from God does not mean God is incapable of speaking to humans (fallen or otherwise).

    Which version - Why?

Short... sweet... and to MY point. THANKS! ;)

    Which version - Why?

So many errors so little time. You made this in reply to me asking question which you never answered. Plus your reply has nothing to do with your original assertion of Mss NOT translations. Not such a good start. Not exactly. While the TR is primarily Byzantine, it does depart 1,800...
  16. Greektim

    Which version - Why?

WHAT???? First, do you have a list of Mss that the TR utilized (Erasmus, Beza, et al)? Second, even if you are referring to the Byz text-type, do you have knowledge of any Byzantine Ms that substantiates your claim of "oldest known manuscripts"? Third, by whose standards do you determine...

    The Sinners prayer

Be more specific. Those verses can be achieved w/out the "sinner's prayer". Specifically, what is the purpose as it relates to evangelism? BTW... thanks for someone finally answering my question.

    The Sinners prayer

Once more... what is the purpose of the sinner's prayer???

    The Sinners prayer

So why do they need a specific prayer if they "understand what it means"??? True sincerity is best determined by their confession of faith guided by the Holy Spirit not the evangelist or pastor.
