Pentagon plans to shrink US Army to pre-WWII level

Yep; thousands of Zulus to each thousand Brit/African troops. The scale of death on both sides...easy to sit back and say that we can overcome their sheer numbers. I believe I mentioned Korea, Japan, and the Polynesian Islands. Shall we just let them fend for themselves?

Pentagon plans to shrink US Army to pre-WWII level

British army versus the Zulus, anyone? (yes, I'm aware that the British ultimately won; but the losses inflicted upon the Brits was mind-boggling)

Pentagon plans to shrink US Army to pre-WWII level

Of course not. You think China is going to mobilize their entire 1.5 million troops into one location? No, it'll be a battle with many fronts. Remember the lesson of how we fought the Japanese in WWII: One island at a time. And if you don't consider China a threat, you're not paying...

Pentagon plans to shrink US Army to pre-WWII level

In a time of national crisis, such as WWII or 9/11, I totally agree. Then there was that whole Viet Nam thing....

Pentagon plans to shrink US Army to pre-WWII level

Last I checked, the Chinese say they have 1.4 million troops.... The reason we had so many problems at the beginning of Afghanistan--and still have, and are the same reasons the Russians had so many problems in Afghanistan--is because of terrain. We could send a drone for an aerial strike...

Pentagon plans to shrink US Army to pre-WWII level

TND sufficiently answered your last question. The alternative is replacing troops with drones -- which still require a large support force. CMG sufficiently answered your second and third questions. What are the threats we face world-wide, not just the "publicity-fueled" one known as...

Pentagon plans to shrink US Army to pre-WWII level

Called up quickly? In what fashion--by volunteer or by draft? If by volunteer, then you place high regard on the average person to willingly place themselves in danger. If by draft, then you place undue regard on a military that is forced to place themselves in danger.

Judge: NYPD Surveilling Muslims in New Jersey Did Not Violate Civil Rights

Hmmm.... As much as I agree with this decision, because I don't see it as discrimination.... ...it does open the door for suveilling of Christian "fundamentalist" groups "to locate budding domestic terrorist conspiracies"....

Do you really have "nothing to hide"?

I was listening to a conservative talk radio show yesterday evening, and the host was bemoaning the fact that Homeland Security has dropped their proposal to record and collect license plate information due to privacy issues. He made the case that 1) license plates are public and therefore not...

The great irony of the day

Funny. Where have I heard that "line" thing before? Let me see; oh, yeah: Syria.

Sent to prison for religious belief

I don't mean to be facetious about this subject; but remember that story about the guy who climbed on his roof during a flood and prayed for God to save him? A raft went by, then a boat, then a helicopter; each time, he refused them, saying "God will save me." In the end, he drowned; and when he...

Big Brother is here: FCC to test placement of monitors in U.S. newsrooms

Did y'all hear that loud "thud"? That was me falling out of my chair over the realization that TND and Poncho agreed on something.... :godisgood::laugh:

    Another man beaten to death

Poncho--it's not my smart phone or computers that have a problem. It's my internet connection. You obviously have cable internet, and can enjoy the luxury of unfettered internet access (at least, until all the ISPs turn to tiered access plans). I, however, live in a rural area and depend upon...

    Another man beaten to death

You misunderstand; it's my former experience that causes me to wait to make judgments until I have all--or as many as possible--the available facts. Do I distrust the daughter? Of course. I don't know her, or anything about her propensity to lie. Neither do you--but your dislike of policemen is...

    When I Die....

Well...my wife intends to cremate me. See, after my previous job for 25 years, I now have somewhere around $100K worth of titanium in various parts of my body, and she wants a necklace and earrings....
