Obama appeals for tolerance on 9/11

I would be stopped before that in the UK, simply by opening my mouth. That's another example of a limitation, this time of free speech: I don't have the freedom to shout 'Fire!' in a crowded theatre.

    UK Enduring Power of Attorney

A UK lawyer asks: what has this thread got to do with Enduring Powers of Attorney?

Obama appeals for tolerance on 9/11

You know better than that. There are always limits to tolerance to do with the basic law of the land eg: I couldn't start a religion which advocated the murder of everyone with blue eyes. The Muslims are allowed freedom of worship in the UK, complete with Azan; however, an example of the...

Obama appeals for tolerance on 9/11

Try Northern Ireland from 1969-1998. Granted, they tended to blow other people up rather than themselves ( the latter occasionally but only by accident).

US church defiant despite condemnation of Koran burning

I care about common courtesy, reaching out to people with the love of Jesus rather than insulting them. Let's take an analogy: I have a friend who is morbidly obese. I'm concerned that he is unhealthily overweight and that this will in all probability shorten his life. I can either: (a)...

    Muslims are not Christian

No, Muslims are not Christians; they are deceived followers of a false religion and deserve our pity and earnest prayers, not our opprobrium (those who commit terrorist acts also deserve punishment, as with any terrorists).

Obama appeals for tolerance on 9/11

No, it's against the law of the land and Muslims are bound by that law as much as everyone else. Same with forced marriages.

Obama appeals for tolerance on 9/11

Some of the posters here seem to be advocating that; I'd be happy to be disabused of that.

"First they came for the Muslims...."

Obama appeals for tolerance on 9/11

...which brings us full circle back to my original point: some Muslims are terrorists.

Obama appeals for tolerance on 9/11

But all non-Christians are the prisoners of deception and sin, not just Muslims - should we therefore suspect Hindus, Jews, Sikhs, cult members, etc?

Obama appeals for tolerance on 9/11

Some Catholic extremists were behind the terrorism, as were some Protestant extremists. That doesn't make either Catholic or Protestant beliefs suspect; rather, it makes an extreme interpretation of those beliefs suspect. Some Muslim extremists are terrorists. That doesn't make Muslim beliefs...

    New arrival

Thanks for all replies. James is our surname BTW so that's not so long; St Clair is from my mother's side and, no, we didn't name him after the Pope...

US church defiant despite condemnation of Koran burning

...all of which would be fine and dandy, but unfortunately I don't think that particular spin will work on his other characteristic, which was to strongly discourage members from having contact with their families. Sorry, but that smells like a cult to me (why are they always called 'Jones'?).
