Catholics, and the Eucharist.

But surely when you, the individual, read Scripture, you are inevitably interpreting it your way? Therefore what you get out of reading Scripture is 'man's interpretation'; of necessity, your interpretation (and mine) is fallible, since we are fallible beings, no matter how much we have the Holy...

When did it all go wrong?

Including us Anglicans, in theory at least.

When did it all go wrong?

Indeed; surely this passage supports the idea of Apostolic authority for ordination and 'passing on' of the ontological charism connected therewith?

    Catholics, and the Eucharist.

Yes, well, they all say that, don't they? I could equally say that the memorialist slant on the Bread of Life Discourse which your expounding here is just your interpretation. Let's be honest here and admit that we all appriach Scripture through the lens of our own experiences, culture and...

    Catholics, and the Eucharist.

I agree with everything in your post except for this bit which is slightly inaccurate: the Patriarchate of Constantinople was only established by the Fourth Ecumenical Council (Chalcedon) in 451. indeed it only became a bishopric after 330.

When did it all go wrong?

    Yes. And? What's your point?

    Catholics, and the Eucharist.

I was aware of that; my comment ("expect someone to tell you it's not a proper Baptist church") was directed at the belief that for them the Real Presence is where two or three are gathered together.

I don't think so: he said "I'm Baptist and my church believes..."

How Far Would You Drive to a Church?

Around 10 minutes' drive in our case. There are closer ones (including a Baptist one less than 10 minutes' walk away!) but we feel called to be where we are. My work is 10-15 minutes' drive away - same distance (3 miles) in each case but I drive to work in rush hour.

Expect someone to be along shortly to tell you that it's not a Proper Baptist Church then...

    Catholics, and the Eucharist.

Do you mean this: ? If so, I would regard the transformation as spiritual rather than physical. I find it noteworthy that the Orthodoxen (Zenas will correct me here if wrong, I trust!) describe it as a mystery and regard the Catholic physical transubstantiation doctrine as being...

    Catholics, and the Eucharist.

For me, as an Anglican (so not a Baptist!) it depends what you mean by 'the Real Presence'. Certainly I accept that Christ is Really Present in the Eucharist, since for me that concept is there in the NT and the ECFs from the get-go, but I don't understand that to mean that the elements...

When did it all go wrong?

Obviously you've not read Matt 16 or any Eusebius, then...Ho hum

When did it all go wrong?

Hmmm... isn't that last date wrong, since the Holy Roman Empire was only established in 800 AD?

Is there such thing as moderate Islam?

...because of course the Bible isn't a violent book, is it?

    What is this-aahu?

Other Brethren preachers I've seen overemphasise the final consonant of a sentence or phrase eg: "Thus saith the Lord-dah!"

    UK Enduring Power of Attorney

Mrs Black and I are related - but through both being descended from William the Conqueror's grandfather, so not too incestuous!

    UK Enduring Power of Attorney

Hmmm...it's possible that it's genuine then: it sounds to me like the attorney is trying to register the EPA because the donor has lost his/her marbles; as part of the registration process it is usually necessary to give written notice of the application for registration to nearest living...
