Did Aaron Invent Rock Music 3400 or So Years Ago Before Elvis?

Okay, so do you have any quotes on their definition? What would it be? The way I described rock music is based on the little book by musician Frank Garlock (father of "Patch the Pirate's" wife; he is now in Heaven), The Big Beat, a Rock Blast.

Did Aaron Invent Rock Music 3400 or So Years Ago Before Elvis?

Then there is the rebellion element.... Rock as originally conceived was rebellion against societal norms. (That was not true in all forms of the genre, but certainly in this example.) So rock in general changed society into a downward path.

Did Aaron Invent Rock Music 3400 or So Years Ago Before Elvis?

Yeah, that stuff's not even music, not even rock music! My view of rock: always 4/4 time, emphasis on the off beat (2nd and 4th; syncopation), heavy bass (usually electric), heavy amplification (loudness), electric guitars (usually solid body, but not always). The only element of these we can...

Did Aaron Invent Rock Music 3400 or So Years Ago Before Elvis?

What is missing here is a definition of the word "rock." How do we know if something is rock music or not?

Dispensational Truth - In Time & Eternity

It's a simple matter of ethics. When you fail to cite your source, it is plagiarism, and that is stealing. If you wish to be seen as a thief, okay, but I certainly do not. That is why we carefully train and warn our college students, and fail them when they plagiarize. A man of ethics will...

Dispensational Truth - In Time & Eternity

Again, no sources for your quotes. I would fail a student of mine who did this for plagiarising. But anyway, your Greek "expert" doesn't know (Dick) Butkis--unless you can tell me who it is, and I might respect them. Concerning the actual assembly of the church "the body of Christ," (I don't...

Dispensational Truth - In Time & Eternity

Please source your statements. How are we to know if your source is authoritative if we don't even know who they are? As a linguist and Greek prof I would be happy to interact, but I'm not going to interact with just any anonymous source you quote.

    I've moderated just a little.

People think the Internet is anonymous...or something.

    I completely agree.

    Questions for dispensationalists

Again, your questions reveal a profound misunderstanding of not only dispensationalism but other theology. You don't even appear to know the actual Scripture that speaks of this particular doctrine: "Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under...

    Questions for dispensationalists

No. Your statement would not be dispensationalism, which has a doxological basis with Christological emphasis, not an Israelology basis. The primary concern of God is His glory. The church and Israel are two ways God accomplishes that. To be fair, some dispensationalists have called the church...

    Questions for dispensationalists

Valid point! I always thought if I believed in baptismal regeneration like the Church of Christ/Christian Church and others did, I'd build a baptistry of the back of a truck and cruise around looking for folks to dunk and save! On the road to Smyrna, Tennessee there used to be a Ch. of Christ...

    Questions for dispensationalists

No. Peter pointed out that God had given the Holy Spirit, and by the definition of "dispensation" as a stewardship, yes, receiving the Holy Spirit at Pentecost was a huge "dispensation," or responsibility. That is why dispensationalists put the beginning of the church in the revival at...

    Questions for dispensationalists

Right. And it's not prophetic, but simply how the Jews were commanded to worship. No reason for this whole fuss. It has nothing to do with dispensationalism. Just looked through some of the best books on dispensationalism, and not a one has Num. 19:2 listed in the verse index: Ryrie...

    Questions for dispensationalists

No. Yes. Don't know don't care. It's an extremely peripheral area, not even prophetic IMO (Num. 19:2). I haven't researched it, don't teach it, and am amused that non-dispensationalists think it's important.
