Dispensational Truth - In Time & Eternity

"It is important to notice that in the first two of these instances [ there can be no question that the Bible uses the word dispensatin in exactly the same way the dispensationalist does" (Charles Ryrie, Dispensationalism, p. 32; Eph. 1:10 & 3:2). Are you actually calling dispensationalism a...

Dispensational Truth - In Time & Eternity

Yes, obviously the dispensations each occupy time, but the time frame is much less important than the stewardship God gives to mankind in each dispensation. Innocency was pretty short, but the church has already lasted 2000 years! Yes, I do believe that there are times when the dispensations...

Dispensational Truth - In Time & Eternity

I don't know why you keep saying this, and I don't understand what you think is being "dispensed". There is nothing in dispensationalism that talks about "dispensing" anything, and the word "dispensation" does not refer to any kind of "dispensing." On the hope that you will learn something from...

John R Rice and Jack Hyles were not dispensationalists?

Okay. This is the typical position, to my knowledge, but a little better. I don't have much time (visitor coming, a class to prepare for, tons of grading to do). But I believe Romans 9-11 clearly disproves your position. Rom 9: 1 I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also...

    Faith Night on American Idol

My roundabout answer: many times they are destroyed by their parents' actions of greed and poor parenting. But as a Christian parent and grandparent, I can't think of a single good thing with spiritual value that can come out of allowing one's child to do a full time job, much less acting or...

    Faith Night on American Idol

Some might not consider it relevant, but consider the lives of child actors and singers. Almost all of them were pretty much destroyed by that childhood fame. It just isn't good for a kid to receive all that attention and adulation.

John R Rice and Jack Hyles were not dispensationalists?

Got it. Sorry! Forgiveness is nice. :) Okay, I'll try to work through this, but at this point it sounds too general to me. To me, Gen. 12:3 is about the Abrahamic covenant, not really a prophecy of "all nations." Interesting. Never heard of that book, though I have Hendriksen's commentary on...

    Faith Night on American Idol

Wow, Bob Sr. and Vance Havner in the same post as Al Sharpton? Sharpton's "ministry" is an argument against "boy preachers".

Dispensational Truth - In Time & Eternity

Wow, I just checked out the website referred to here. It's crazy, and not strict dispensational thinking, but more someone's idea of a post-trib position, or maybe a pre-wrath position (neither of which are standard dispensationalism): says the Rapture comes after the abomination of desolations...

Dispensational Truth - In Time & Eternity

Nope. We oppose him. It is not dispensational theology to predict the Rapture. In fact, I specifically warn against it in my college/seminary class, "Dispensational Theology." You know, you really should stop sharing all your mistaken theories about dispensationalism. You keep getting it wrong.

John R Rice and Jack Hyles were not dispensationalists?

Let me clarify. "Ethnic Israel" is a term used in eschatology for people who are Jewish by blood as opposed to Gentiles. Therefore, it points to a separate future for especially Jewish people. That future includes the tribulation, when it is prophesied that Israel will return to their land and...

John R Rice and Jack Hyles were not dispensationalists?

Some may call me an internet theologian, but I have a BA and an MA in biblical studies, and teach theology (several courses) in a real college and real seminary. In fact, today I am giving a test in Bible Doctrines 2. Care to take it? The textbook is Charles Ryrie's Basic Theology. ;) Please...

John R Rice and Jack Hyles were not dispensationalists?

Thank you for the kind words. Oh, I'm not "local church only." I just believe that right now the local church should be our main focus. I grant that there are passages which treat all believers as one, thus supporting a "church" made up of all believers that will not actually assemble until...

    Faith Night on American Idol

Since they say "American Idol," I'm thinking they got the term from Japan, where Buddhist and Shinto idolatry flourish. Over there, the English word "idol" has become the Japanese word アイドル (aidoru), and refers to pop music singers. And at times it seems to be actual idol worship, with swooning...

    Faith Night on American Idol

I absolutely oppose that. A child does not have the knowledge of the Bible, the understanding of doctrine, and the wisdom to apply the Scripture to our lives. A kid can imitate a grown preacher and holler for a while, but that's not the same as a God called, Spirit empowered preacher of Jesus...

John R Rice and Jack Hyles were not dispensationalists?

Good post. The mid-Acts position, as well as the Acts 28 position, denies that the Great Commission is for us. But they do personal evangelism and send out missionaries anyway! I've talked several times to a mid-Acts man here in town, and seen him witnessing powerfully to some folk in MacDonald's.

John R Rice and Jack Hyles were not dispensationalists?

This is contra ultra-dispensationalism (Bullinger, Stam, O'Hair, etc.), which says that water baptism is no longer valid. Normal dispensationalism does not agree. I've baptized a bunch of Japanese, some in my homemade baptistry in our apartment! I'll attach an essay by ultra-dispensationalist...

John R Rice and Jack Hyles were not dispensationalists?

All theologians worth their salt use the term "dispensation," because it is a biblical term. Even Berkhof, the covenant theologian, wrote, that "dispensation" is "a Scriptural term" (Systematic Theology, p. 290). Only Internet "theologians" deny that the word has any value for theology! :Biggrin...
