S.Matthew X:16 (KJV1611):
Behold, I send you foorth as
sheepe in the middest of wolues : be yee
therefore wise as serpents, and
||harmelesse as doues.
Sidenote: || Or, simple.
S.Matthew X:16 (KJV1611alt):
Behold, I send you foorth as
sheepe in the middest of wolues : be yee
therefore wise as serpents, and
simple as doues.
Fortunately this is oneof those terms
that would NOT still carry the original
message. For back in 1611 "simple" meant
unencombered with ploting ways
but now "simple" means developmentally
challenged.
Matthew 10:16 (KJV1769):
Behold, I send you forth as
sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye
therefore wise as serpents, and
harmless as doves.
Matthew 10:16 (nKJV):
Behold, I send you out as sheep
in the midst of wolves. Therefore
be wise as serpents and
harmless as doves.
Matthew 10:16 (NLT):
Look, I am sending you out as sheep
among wolves.
Be as wary as snakes and
harmless as doves
Note this MV clarifies "wise" to "wary"
and leaves "harmless" the same.
Matthew 10:16 (NCV = New Century Version):
Listen, I am sending you out like sheep
among wolves.
So be as smart as snakes
and as innocent as doves.
The NCV clarifies both terms.
Note the use here in the Bible of Jesus
using a Similie specified by "as" or "like".
Jesus is comparing a key quality of the
animals mentioned that the disciples are to have.
