No, it does not. The "burden of proof" exists one the one making any positive assertion. Greek-Tim is not making a positive assertion (at least not any more than you are).
Neither YOU, nor Rev.Mitchell are properly applying the principle of "Burden of Proof"....
You are here, asking him to prove a negative...and that is IMPOSSIBLE.
NO-ONE can "prove" something is "not" inappropriate.
Some debates are not so simple as establishing "burden of proof" and then seeing if one side can prove their point inescapably...This is one of those debates. "Burden of Proof" is not really an issue for the most part.

    Absolutely correct.

I'd love to find some way or means to rationalize away or justify my use of profane language. It'd make me feel better about myself, no questions about it.

The problem is, I know (and find) that when I use profanity, it's sin. No excuses, no right or wrong company or circumstances, just sin and my personal weaknesses. Other words, cleaner ones, suffice just fine in every situation wherein which I find myself cursing, BUT they don't "feel" as good to use. Painting the walls with colorful speech feels so right to the wrong parts of me.

So, that settled. What about the inner-man, does the attitude/belief that the words used, adequately display the heart of the speaker? And if it does, ouch!

Romans 8, verse 1 to the rescue!!!

I disagree. The entire premise these four letter words are appropriate in certain situations. Stating the Bible does not condemn specific words is not valid.

I agree, but the assertation has been made that certain four letter words are appropriate. This must be proven from a christian perspective.

This is false. They are making a positive assertion. It is false the are simply denying the other assertion. The burden of proof exists on both sides.

Yes, it does exist on "both sides" as you said.
The"burden of proof" exists on BOTH sides.

You present your argument why certain words are inapprorpriate (for English speakers) regardless of circumstance and the opposition will explain why they feel or believe that there is no Scriptural justification for it....Let the best man win :)

Do you understand that only one side insisted that they had no burden of proof?

OH...c'mon...we all do. You want to win, and so do I, so does Luke and so does "GreekTim"....

I'd take you seriously if you admitted it. Luke would and Greek would...but you refuse to be honest...
That's why I have zilch appreciation for your POV about "cussing" and infinite respect for theirs!!!...

They don't LIE, and you do.

So...I would possibly add that I have less respect for the town I was raised in than I used to...because ....you seem to think that that is relevant????
Where you were born or raised is irrelevant....IRRELEVANT...!
I love my town...and I have just lost respect for it.

    What???

Is your goal to "gotcha" me?

    Do you think me "miserable"?....

If you did...what then, would convince you that the appropriate reaction would be to "leave" me to it...rather than attempt to help me through it?

dude...you aren't making sense...and the reality of it "P.ss.S" you off...

    I am a VERY blessed man....I have a WONDERFUL wife...and 4 BEAUTIFUL children...all gifts from God...
    I promise you...I ain't "miserable"
    I weep for Ocala.

This isn't personal man...just argue your point!!!
If you are right about your position on the "cussing" issue, then you are right...and if you aren't then you aren't!
Where do we have some personal beef which causes you to attack me??
I'll go ahead and admit that I am not an "adult" (as you claim)....so, please explain to this ignorant child, precisely (according to Scripture) why it is appropriate for an English speaker to use the word "Poo-Poo" and not "S**T"........

    Anyone??????????

You cannot claim 'its nothing personal' after saying 'they don't lie, and you do'. That kind of charge immediately makes it personal.

Just because there are worse things in life doesn't give us as believers the freedom speaking vulgarities, even something the world knows is wrong. This entire thread and support for a believer acting in this manner is as stupid as it gets.

Christians using profanity/cussing is NEVER appropriate. It gives those who are not saved a reason to look at us and say "why be saved", they don't conduct themselves any better than the unsaved. I heard my unsaved father say "If he's going to Heaven then so am I". It is not so much the words as the impression it gives of those who are supposedly following and acting in a way our Lord would. I would not want to bring shame on Him just to vent my own anger or frustration.

Well, how do you really feel...

I could say that your complete obstinance towards everything I have said and argued for is just as stupid. But how does that help the discussion along?
