The cop made the split second decision deadly force was justified. You don’t use less than deadly force (stun gun) when deadly force is justified. Stun guns don’t work on everyone.

You do not shoot to “disable” for the same reason. Attempting to shoot someone in the leg or arm is risky for others, is a more difficult target to hit and may not stop the threat. If deadly force is necessary, you shoot center mass.

You may have well have asked why didn’t the cop just jump the 15 year old girl and take the knife away? She was just a loving little, motherly type and he was a grown man. Of course, the guy kicking the other girl in the head wouldn’t have gotten involved as he easily wrestled that knife away from that little girl.

Why didn’t the cop just say, “wait a second, ma’am, we are calling a crises counselor to come resolve this issue.” Please don’t stab that girl.

Then after the girl in the pink was stabbed a few times, the cop could have stated in a slightly raised and somewhat more firm voice, “ma’am, please don’t stab the girl anymore, you might cause her serious harm”.

The cop was justified and saved a young black girls life. That should be recognized and focused on.

They are trained to get the pther down as quick as possible when need to shoot!

I am confident there isn’t a law enforcement use of force class in this nation that uses that language.

They are not trained to “put someone down as soon as possible” They are trained to use only the amount of force necessary to stop the threat, use lethal force as a last resort, and de-escalate as soon as the threat is removed.

Soldiers can shoot the enemy at any time. They can ambush. They can shoot from range. They can use explosives and artillery. They can use overwhelming force. A soldier’s mission is to kill the enemy and break things.

It’s just different.

Will be to “stop the threat”. That’s the language that is used. The intent of the officer is to stop the threat, not to kill.
