What part of "the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances" in the First Amendment don't you understand?

You dont get to do it just anywhere you want or anyway you want. When you interfere with the rights of others then you are in the wrong.

I don't think Mandy PERSONALLY arrested anyone.

But My thinking is the O.W.S. supporters would be singing a different tune if their front yard was being occupied.

You seem confused. The UC Davis students were on publicly owned property of the University they were paid students at. Their being there did not infringe on the rights of anyone else. They did not block access or did they accost passers by. The simply sat quietly in the quadrangle in silent protest of what they consider to be the illegal, unethical, and immoral conduct of their elected representatives.

Suppose those same cops decided they didn't like you assembling in church on Sunday and pepper strayed you and the rest of the congregation? If that happened I suspect your opinions would change very rapidly.

Its not freedom unless EVERYBODY has it.

Apparently you are confused. the property is controlled by the school. They were given a lawful command not to assemble across that path and they refused to move. They have been arrested for unlawfully congregating. They do not get to just do what ever they want. You should check your facts rather than just depend on a propaganda video.

In order for Tom's scenario to be comparable, the church would have asked me to leave, and the cops would have asked me to leave.

They were not blocking access or stopping passersby. The cops broke the law and should be held accountable.

Some of you people really scare me. It sounds almost like you want to bring by the Inquisition with you in the role of Torquemada!

I think the whole OWS thing is stupid, but they have the right to assemble and protest what they consider wrong. It amazes me that so many of you so-called "Americans" can have so little respect for what this country is all about.

Says who? You seem to have info no one else has. They were arrested. So it appears they broke the law. Now what evidence do you have to prove otherwise? You should call their attorney.

Wrong again! It happened right here in San Diego! A church was having evangelistic meetings. It was August and hot. The church windows were open and a hateful neighbor called the police and lodged a noise complaint. The idiot cop who responded told the evangelist he had to cease and desist preaching. The evangelist said he had to do as God told him to do and continued preaching. The cop maced him, hand cuffed him, and dragged him out of the church. The pastor stepped behind the pulpit and continued the message. The cop called for backup. He then arrested the pastor and put flex cuffs on him. A deacon then stepped up to the pulpit and continued the message. By that time backup had arrived. A Sargent told the cop to release the two preachers in custody and place himself on leave pending an IA investigation. The cop was eventually fired.

It happens. A lot more than you may be aware of. Why should your rights be more important than the OWS kids at US Davis?

Duh! The cops were suspended and the Chancellor has been asked to resign! What cave have you been living in?

The cop in this case is wrong. I'm glad he got fired.

Does O.J. Simpson have it? This sounds like something he would join just to get another woman if for no other reason.
Yes. He has all the freedoms and rights guaranteed by the US constitution. He had a right to a trial by a jury of his peers and he got it. He had the right to not incriminate himself and he got it. He had the right to an attorney and he got it.

If we could (I know it's not possible, but...) IF we could get the media to ignore these spoiled children, then this would come to naught much sooner. "Naught" is where they are headed anyway.
