I noticed that no Democrat asked a question about facts or tried to advance an investigation. Instead they lavished praise on her, said she was credible, said she was courageous (she was), and basically appealed to emotions and grandstanded.

On the other side, I didn't see any rhyme or reason to prosecutor Mathews questions. There was no overarching strategy that I saw. She did bring out some more inconsistencies (the number of questions in the polygraph test, who paid for the polygraph test, her "fear" of flying unless it involves work and/or vacationing, not remembering if you gave WaPo your therapists notes, etc.)
If they attack her as they should, most will see them as being bullies, as the judge is one of those white priveldged guys in their eyes who deserves it anyways!

It is an unprecedented move. I am open to correction...

Why did they do it?

It's bad optics.

First the democrats said it would "look bad" if a bunch of old white guys were to question a woman about sexual assault. Now the talking point is that they are cowards. No matter what they do, I guess they can't win.

I don't believe the Republicans are that stupid.

Hah! Surely you jest? Time after time the Republicans have been outplayed by the Democrats. They get elected promising to do this and do that, and then once the election is over they stab their supporters in the back.

McConnell said he was going to rip out the Obama care law "root and branch", well, Obamacare is still in force. If they don't get Kavenaugh onto the bench, I just might not vote for the Republicans next time around and let the cards fall where thy may. Yes, the Republicans can be stupid.

The problem is that trhere are few who have the backbone the president has, and are willing to jellyfish under pressure. The Dems have real and form convictions, as most of them are of Satan and of the kingdom of darkness

It wouldn't look bad if they had called for an unbiased investigation and had taken the allegations seriously.

Now the talking point is that they are cowards.
Because that's exactly what it looks like. Politicians often have trouble with courage. Normally they love to mug for the camera. This time, they have a flawed candidate and they don't have the courage to offend either Kavanaugh's supporters or detractors. Someone is always going to be upset, however, people respect leaders who take a stand. Truman claimed "the buck" stopped with him. One of the thing that attracts people to Trump is that he gives the impression he is not concerned about what people think.

No matter what they do, I guess they can't win.
There is all sorts of things that could have done up to this point. They have created this showdown with all of its "bad optics." Of course, this is not a recent thing.

I believe he was talking about the person who has accused Kavenaugh of being part of a rape group, you know the creepy porn lawyer Avenetti's client.
The context was from his comments on the two men who claimed to have attacked Ford.

The Fbi already didSIX background checks on the Judge, and the Fbi already stated they will not get inloved, as not under their jurisdiction!
And Feistine should have given the letter to Comitee back in July when got letter!

Then they can do a seventh and investigate these issues. As someone else has said, "I don't care whose background check they have passed. Passing a proper background check simply means the person has not been caught YET."

...and the Fbi already stated they will not get inloved, as not under their jurisdiction!
"Jurisdiction" is for legal matters. This is a background check. If the President orders it, they will do it. If the Senate requests it, they will do it.

She claims she held it because the accuser did not want to come forward. People are complaining NOW that her accusations are unsubstantiated (even though they aren't). Just think of what it would have been like if the accuser would not have come forward.

If you know anything about sexual assualt/rape, it takes enormous courage to come out of the shadows and speak up. Few people do.

What is the time of limitations though, what can legally be down to Him, and wonder how many skeletons all of those paragons of virtures Dems have in clostes?

(1) This is a job interview, not a criminal proceeding.
(2) This is about character and honesty.
(3) Since this is a job interview, he is not entitled to the job, he has been nominated for it. What our elected officials are supposed to be doing is assessing his character and competence. Goruch didn't have troubles like this because he is apparently an honorable man and competent.

There's lots of dirt on both sides of the aisle in Washington. But that doesn't change the issue at hand.

Has there been yet ANY evidence produced to second her testimony, or are we still she said/he said?

Gorsuch was the one the Democrats were going to let through easy, while Kavenaugh who is a a staunch constitutionalist who would tip the court against Democrat ideas. He was the one whom they would go scorched earth on, as none of the Democrats except a few were going to vote for him at any rate.

Judge Kavenaugh really couldn't be stopped because the Republicans if they hold together have the majority to win, so at this point the Democrat tactic became to delay the vote by any means necessary until after the election. Judge Kavenaugh is also an honorable man, he just had the bad fortune to be President Trump's second nominee.

Prediction on Kavanaugh/Ford Hearing]

Kavanaugh's Confirmation Odds Are Suddenly Surging On Prediction Markets

"The odds that Brett Kavanaugh will be confirmed to the Supreme Court are suddenly surging, one day ahead of a much anticipated hearing in which Washington, Wall Street and just about everyone else will tune in to hear the SCOTUS candidate and his accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, on Capitol Hill on Thursday.

After tumbling on Sunday to as low as 26 cents, shortly after the New Yorker reported that a second woman had stepped forward with an accusation of sexual misconduct, this time during his college years at Yale University, a “yes” contract now costs as much as 63 cents compared to 39 cents for a “no” bet as of 9 a.m. in New York.

What may have prompted the turnaround?

As we reported yesterday, the fate of Kavanaugh's nomination may rest on the decision made by Maine Senator Susan Collins who is seen as the key swing vote in the nomination process. Then overnight, Bloomberg reported that Collins doesn’t think President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee would overturn the Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion because he said he respects precedent. Vanity Fair echoed this and said that "Susan Collins will bite the bullet and support Kavanaugh."

Collins, a Maine Republican who supports abortion rights, said her discussions with Kavanaugh persuaded her that he believes “the concept of precedent is rooted in Article III of the Constitution, and he clearly reveres our Constitution."

Still, Collins said she hasn’t decided whether she’ll vote in favor of confirming Kavanaugh to the court. She’s waiting to make a decision until after hearing testimony at a Thursday Senate Judiciary Committee hearing from a woman who accuses Kavanaugh of sexual assault during high school.

For now, however, at least the online betting market is confident that she will go with "yes", although we still have to see what surprise attorney Michael Avenatti will pull out of his hat, and whether that will meaningfully shift the nomination odds."

Yes, but at some point we who make up the base have got to take a stand. I am getting tired of showing up every election day and voting the party line only to get stabbed in the back by the folks I supported. What good is it electing Republicans if they govern like Democrats?

I am sure you have heard the old saying that Republicans hold office while the Democrats hold all the power. Even when they are in the minority, the Democrats fight tooth and nail for their policies while the Republicans even when in the majority do not. There should be a big beautiful wall on the southern being built as we speak, so why has the Republican majority refused to fund it?

Interesting. According to what you have written, I can conclude:

(1) You are privy to Democratic strategy meetings.
(2) Gorsuch was not a good pick and not a "staunch constitutionalist"

He was the one whom they would go scorched earth on, as none of the Democrats except a few were going to vote for him at any rate
Uh huh.

Judge Kavenaugh really couldn't be stopped because the Republicans if they hold together have the majority to win...
Of course, that was the case for refusing to consider Merrick Garland and the confirmation hearings of Gorsuch. Yet no similar charges came against Gorsuch.

Your theory does not seem to be supported by the evidence, and I have no confidence that you are a Democratic strategy insider.

...so at this point the Democrat tactic became to delay the vote by any means necessary until after the election.
What's wrong with that? The pending election that would occur nine months later was the excuse Republicans made to prevent Garland from being considered. So what is the problem if we wait until after the election coming up in mere weeks?

Judge Kavenaugh is also an honorable man...
That's the matter under consideration.

I am NOT a Republican or a Democrat. I identify with the Libertarian party.

Donald Trump is not either either.

Trump is Trump - support Him and those he supports as I do. Let the chips fall, etc...
(well it's not everyone on my part but mostly).

Wonder how the markets all feel now, after the professor pretty much made everyone buy her act?
