Should Christians strongly support the SECOND AMENDMENT?

"He that suffers his life to be taken from him by one that hath no authority for that purpose, when he might preserve it by defense, incurs the Guilt of self murder since God hath enjoined him to seek the continuance of his life, and Nature itself teaches every creature to defend himself." That's nice.

“The Christian does not hurt even his enemy.”
Tertullian

Puritan commentator Thomas Ridgeley (1667-1734) in his commentary on the Westminster Larger Catechism, asks, "What are the duties required in the Sixth Commandment?" (the Commandment that prohibits killing) "The duties... are, all careful studies, and lawful endeavours to preserve the life of ourselves, and others... by just defence thereof against violence... succouring the distressed, and protecting and defending the innocent."

Ridgeley continues, "What are the sins forbidden in the Sixth Commandment?" The answer, "The sins forbidden... are... the neglecting or withdrawing the lawful and necessary means of preservation of life."

I have indeed.

Off the top of my head I've shot:
BB Gun
Pellet Gun

Shotguns:
.410 Shotgun
12 Guage (singleshot, pump and auto)
20 Guage
16 Guage (old school double barrel. MAN was my arm sore the next day!)

Rifles:
.22
30-30
30.06
AR-15
M-16
SKS
Mosin Nagant
K98 Mauser

Handguns:
.22
.38 revolver (several. My dad's favorite)
9mm (several)
.40
.45

I'm probably missing a few

Aha, what an anomaly! :tonofbricks:

When someone tells me that it is a sin to defend the the innocent, it has officially become absurd.

Could not agree more. People who throw that word "sin" around usually end up having some pretty thin skin.

It is my contention that the members of the anti-defense crowd haven't got any experience in shooting BB guns.

If we want to figure out who here can shoot, below is a double-tap from me at 20 yards at an IPSC mini-target, in the snow, on the clock, using a stock Glock 35 that wasn't mine, using very harsh and cheap factory .40 ammo from Wal-Mart. This wasn't an anomaly, I can hit baseballs at 25 yards all day long. I doubt many people here could hang with me in terms of accurate pistol shooting to be honest.

Yet, it is my opinion that some of the self defense fans who would ventilate somebody the second they start crawling through their window are not acting on biblical principles.

You mean a double-tap with two shots 30 seconds apart?

Nnnnope, but even if it were two hard aimed shots, ain't too many people on boards like this who could even do that at distance, or even half that. Just because you can't doesn't mean it's not possible. ;)

So you counted the taped holes!

:) The taped ones is how everybody else in my squad was spewing them out. Of course given the scoring system of USPSA, being this accurate isn't exactly advantageous, it tends to reward the machine gunners who spew a bunch of rounds in the general direction. Hard for me to operate like that. :BangHead:

Guns in the hands of citizens make for a strong citizenry that can counter an abusive government. An abusive government, as historically proven, always paves the way to an erosion of our basic freedoms such as religion, assembly, and free speech. Therefore, should we not support the Second strongly?

(I asked this question ten years ago when we were way fewer.)

Ask the citizens of Warsaw, Poland who lived there during the dreaded Nazi Germany invasion who had no "Second Amendment" to live by

During their "uprising" against Nazi aggression they scrounged around for any sort of handgun/weapon they could get their hands on----learned how to make homemade bombs/grenades/Montolov Cocktails---and on occasion were able to overtake a panzer crew and added a Mark IV to their limited arsenal-----but how long were they able to "hold out" against the German Army w/o air support or any sort of artillery piece for fire support----2 months, I think!!??
