There is nothin biblical about using the government to take what one person has earned and give it to someone you think needs it more. In the Bible, that would be called theft.

Jesus was never an advocate of using the proceeds of theft to help others.
That is correct. Christians are told to help the poor and less fortunate than us, but government is not the medium. Before welfare, and all of the other programs, these needs were taken care of by the family and local church.

Playing devil's advocate for a moment, one has to wonder, if all government involvement stopped to the less fortunate, would we be willing to help these people as much as needed since most alive today are used to the government handling the situation. Cutting these programs would be a reduction in our tax bill, but would we be willing to take that extra money and help those in need through our churches?

Jesus was never an advocate of using the proceeds of theft to help others.

I see that as a very weak argument and selfish stance. Neither the Bible nor Jesus says that it is wrong to use what one person has earned to help another.

Of course in those days the idea of a government helping the elderly and those in need was not, to my knowledge, a topic conceived of, thus the Bible is mute on it.

We know Jesus was concerned about how people treat each other. So, I believe, seeing as how churches are not doing their job in helping the poor, the needy and the elderly, that Jesus would side with the government helping.

There is much the Bible is quiet on. For instance to my knowledge there is nothing said about:

Democracy
Communism
Socialism -- though the very early church comes closest as they held all things in common.
Airplanes
Television
Inoculations

So, I do not believe arguments are valid such as saying, You should not watch television as the Bible does not say it is allowable.

Now the Bible does say your should not wear clothing of mixed fibers. Do you violate this rule?

More to the point, if all government programs were stopped would you increase your giving to the church so that the poor, needy and elderly could be helped with your money?

Would you help pay their medical bills?
Would you pay the water bill ... assuming they live where they use public water?
Would you help buy their groceries?

That's the same bunch of hogwash that liberals have used to justify their mess in the past and now evangelicals are using that same "we're not electing a theologian in chief" excuse to buffer their own unGodly decisions.

So what? Seems that the evangelical masses are more concerned about saving folks to this world than they are to saving them for eternity. Might explain all the sudden willingness to compromise and support a false god worshiper.

So you want a theological guideline for Presidents? Then maybe Jimmy Carter should forever be President and then the stupidity that was the Carter Presidency would continue.

"So what?" You really think that taking a human life is to be passed off so flippantly? I have given the last 30 years of my life to preaching the Gospel as clearly as I can. But I can still be concerned about life in this present time. Why? Because God is. He was the one who affixed a penalty to killing people and supports the rights of the living.

Of course you do. You're a liberal.

Taking the earnings of others to use as you see fit violates every Christian principle in the Bible but fits right in with liberal behavior.

After all, people should not be given the opportunity to share with those in need on their own.

Only the government is capable of determining who is in need and who is not. And if there is any left over, they can use it for pork barrell projects to stay in office. Liberals are in need, too, and are notoriously weak charitable givers. Hypocrites.

Give me scripture for this. I do not believe you can. So the argument is as valid or invalid either way.

After all, people should not be given the opportunity to share with those in need on their own.

So you do not believe that you should even help your family?

Only the government is capable of determining who is in need and who is not. And if there is any left over, they can use it for pork barrell projects to stay in office. Liberals are in need, too, and are notoriously weak charitable givers. Hypocrites.

Strange that you state this as your belief. I do not believe this, why do you?

Now please answer my questions, if all government programs were eliminated would you:

1. Increase you giving at church so others could be helped?
2. Pay the medical bills for someone in need?
3. Pay the water bill for someone who cannot afford to pay that bill and their water will be shut off?

I really can't believe this question was unanswered.

....Jesus focus ministry than it is to upholding biblical values of peace, love, justice, and mercy.

And where does eternal death from rejection of said Christ come in ? What IS the central part of Christ's teachings ? To be nice to each other ?

Sorry, I don't hang out in this forum all day long.

I'd say the working out of His Gospel is evidenced in these above acts.

I'd also be willing to put out there that if you did concordance searches these terms would be more directly associated with God's character and Jesus' ministry than anything you've put forward in this thread.

Besides, you shouldn't be calling people cowards.

I'm not sure I agree. There are plenty of people who throw Christ's name around, yet run and hide when is real message is presented.

True

Neither. Our job is to preach Christ, and him crucified. I think the Calvinists are right about the way baptists thump their chest over their anticipated jewels.

And the anticipated result of preaching Christ is that God will draw others unto Himself through your obedience. But when your own hypocrisy has cut off the platform upon which you were given to preach the Gospel, then what?

...I'm in tears over here....how did Kieth Olbermann get posting priveleges here ?

:laugh::laugh:

Seriously.....are you serious ?

Sure am. That's why I asked the question that you seem to be dancing around answering.

Name a country who's poplulation has done more to fulfill the great comission than the U.S..

And what does that have to do with the question posed to you? Forget Olberman. You dance as well as Barishynikov.

Yep. He's got an agenda. An Obama agenda. A troll.

That's funny. I've already expressed time and time again that I don't support either of the evil men. So save your bearing of false witness for someone else.:wavey:

The wealth is definitely in the Body to do so. But we can't even get folks to pay a tithe.

We had another troll here for awhile who used the "bearing false witness" game all the time.

I wonder if he's back? Trolls always eventually give themselves away.

I'd much rather support a Christian President and his bad economic policy than an unChristian President and his fantastic economic policy

The only thing that was flippantly passed off is this continued evangelical high horse that we're doing God a favor by saving babies but letting everybody else go to hell because we are hypocritically telling them they need Jesus but supporting a candidate who worships a false god.

My continued flippancy is to the hypocrisy of all of you who keep throwing Barack Obama supporting the murder of babies at CTB, but don't have a problem supporting your candidate of choice who worships a false god.

Is abortion a bigger sin than worshiping a false god? Being pro-abortion isn't gonna keep anybody out of heaven. Worshiping a false god will.

So which is REALLY the bigger issue in light of eternity?

And does this name calling of troll count as trolling too? Because that seems to be the reply of everyone of you who keep throwing abortion out as a reason to not support that evil Barack Obama while all the while supporting that evil false god worshiping Romney.

So you are confortable with President Obama's concept of god... the god (small 'g' intentional) of his former pastor... or maybe the god of his Muslim forebears?

Obviously, eternal salvation is much more important, but if they're killed, what chance do they have to ever hear and receive Christ as Savior.

You continually make a false dichotomy between being conerned about human life being preserved and a person's salvation. And you are wrong.

But this is a fruitless discussion. You won't change me and I won't change you. So I pray you're telling people about the Savior so they can have the eternal life we are both so concerned about.

Also continually asserts that voting for Romney is a vote for idolatry.

Just put Zaac in the killfile and forget about him.

Gosh no. I don't believe the man is a Christian personally. There are too many inconsistencies and too much pushing of the Muslim god while denigrating all things Christian. He couldn't have my support if he were running unopposed.

A just God is able. We have no control over the choices other folks CHOOSE. We do however have a control over the choices we make and what our Christian witness for Christ will look like.

And at this rate, we're going to render ourselves completely ineffective. The Church already looks like the lost world. Divorce. Homosexuality. Drinking. The movies we watch. Are we now going to start making it look like we're okay with someone worshiping a false god too?

You continually make a false dichotomy between being conerned about human life being preserved and a person's salvation. And you are wrong.

I'm not making anymore of a false dichotomy than you guys are about CTB.

But this is a fruitless discussion. You won't change me and I won't change you. So I pray you're telling people about the Savior so they can have the eternal life we are both so concerned about.

And I pray that you're doing the same in good conscience as you and other evangelicals also show your support for a man who doesn't bow at the feet of the Savior.
