Explain why the hearts of corpses need hardening, and why the "god of this world" needs to blind those who are already corpses?

Who said they NEEDED to be?
Nobody said they NEEDED to be...but they were. Why if they are a corpse in the first place? What kind of a corpse can be blinded, or have their heart "hardened". They're corpses...right?
Quote:
Scripture does not say man "dead in sin" cannot respond...calvinism does.

Oh but it does. This is why I asked you about the atonement. If man did not DIE...as in dead we have somthing we must deal with on the atonement.
What needs to be dealt with in regards to the atonement?
Quote:
Logic and common sense tell us that physical corpses cannot respond, but we know from Scipture God outweighs logic and common sense, and a corpse CAN respond to Christ. We need to throw out the same human logic and common sense in dealing with spiritual death.
Then there must be Scipture to support this. Post is and we will ttalk about it.
Scripture to support what exactly, we are not to lean on our own understanding (Prov. 3:5), or physically dead people can respond (John 11)? You can't ask for Scripture to support a spiritually dead person responding to Christ...because you cannot provide Scripture that a spiritually dead person CANNOT respond to Christ.
Quote:
You are escalting the work of the Holy Spirit over and above God the Father, Christ, and His written Word.

The Bible is clear that both God the Father and Holy Spirit enables.
Drawing is not the same thing as enabling. Drawing is to "entice" or make something desireable or attractive. Enabling means to turn something on. The Bible doesn't use "enable", it uses "draw".
Quote:
Show from Scripture where Christ and the Gospel found in Gods Word is powerless unless the Holy Spirit acts? The Trinity works in unison, not apart in salvation for mankind. God draws...man responds.
The Holy Spirit it is said my many is the Exective Executator if the Trinity. If you look at any action done by God, you will see Holy Spirit ...there..doing the work. He is not in the forefront, yet it is He that does the work.
I don't care what the "many" say, what does the Bible say?
..Gods Word....Men wrote as they were MOVED by the Holy Spirit.
Gen 1...the Spirit of God MOVED upon the face of the earth.
matt 1 18....mary was with child..of the Holy Spirit.

I could go on for days.
I know you can go on for days, I've seen some of your marathon posts
That's all good and everything, but it doesn't answer the question I asked, nor does it provide the proper Scripture to support man unable to respond to Christ.
And I feel I have shown otherwise. I guess we leave it there. There is proof from the Bible, yet not all believe it is there.
I hope someday you will believe it's there ;)

We go..for we are told to Go and we do it in LOVE for God.

More on this later..I need to do some work.

Good debate. :)

In Christ..James
I also do this for the love of God, and because He tells us to. The difference is, my attitude isn't "I don't know who the elect are or aren't", it's more of a because "God so loves the world...that whoever believes will not perish, but have eternal life". Pretty big difference when looking at evangelism from a "gathering" standpoint, to a "planting" (a genuine love) standpoint.

Arthur,
There you go again. Claiming to believe like Spurgeon on this parable, then when it suits you, tell that you do not have to agree with everything he said. Its obvious that you have found others to argue with, so you and Dale enjoy the act.

Since when do we have to agree with any MAN on everything he believes?

Honestly, you come up with the weirdest things I have ever seen on this board.
It is almost comical :)

What is more comical is your treatment of other Christians on BB while claiming to be a student of the Bible.

What I think is comical is I am reminded of a cartoon that had two dogs in it, the one was big and slow, and the other one little. The little dog just jumped around the big one saying, "right boss, you're right, and when you're right you're right".

I don't know why I'm reminded of that. :wavey:

Would you please tell me exactly what it is that I have done to be so offensive??
You keep making these general accusations and I can't for the life of me even figure out what you are talking about.

You said: "Regeneration is the act of God awakening spiritual life within us, bringing us from spiritual death to spiritual life. On this definition, it is natural to understand that regeneration comes before saving faith. It is in fact this work of God that gives us the spiritual ability to respond to God in faith. However, when we say that it comes "before" saving faith, it is important to remember that they usually come so close together that it will ordinarily seem to us that they are happening at the same time."

Regeneration = new birth

So, you are saying that you are reborn before you believe?

I did..didn't i? Humm now it seems you got me in the corner with my OWN words. Wait..I have a good idea...why not read the few lines before this statement. Maybe you will find somthing there.

Neither one of those two verses negates the other. So, you have to accept the fact that He gave himself a ransom for all.
1st what is meant in your view....with the word ransom?

ran·som n
1. a sum of money demanded or paid for the release of somebody who is being held prisoner
2. the release of a prisoner in return for the payment of money
3. the act of saving somebody from an oppressed condition or dangerous situation through self-sacrifice (literary)

vt
1. to release somebody from captivity by paying money to the captors
2. to rescue or redeem somebody, especially by a self-sacrificing act, and especially from sin or its punishment (literary)

is that like atonement?

a·tone·ment n
1. the making of reparation for a sin or a mistake
2. a·tone·ment or A·tone·ment in Christian belief, the reconciliation between God and people brought about by the death of Jesus Christ

propitiation
the act of atoning for sin or wrongdoing (especially appeasing a deity)

rec·on·cil·i·a·tion n
1. the ending of conflict or renewing of a friendly relationship between disputing people or groups
2. the making of two or more apparently conflicting things consistent or compatible
3. the act whereby an individual’s sins are removed by atonement

1 John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
Yes...the whole world over.

"...to give his life a ransom for many", simply means not "all" will believe. Not "all" will accept it. Making it effective only to the "many" who believe.
are sins covered...paid for...or not? I say YES...Christ blood worked in all cases. what do you think?

Job 40...

6Then answered the LORD unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

7Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.

8Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous?

9Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?

10Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty.

11Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and abase him.

12Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.

13Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret.

14Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee.

Now Blammo,
There goes the bell for English class. We will have a test next session on the above word list. And remember, you must commit these words to memory, no cutting and pasting.

Please tell me.

Well, if the atonement changed NOTHING in the state of man before salvation, then this is pure pelagius being shot down by nearly every age.

You can't ask for Scripture to support a spiritually dead person responding to Christ...because you cannot provide Scripture that a spiritually dead person CANNOT respond to Christ.

DEAD means dead..and it is on you to show that dead means anything other then dead. What is so funny..God used the STRONGEST word you can use to show the state of man. Yet some say...Oh I'm not that bad. Tell me another word that would place man lower. Dead...is nothing...no response...it gets no lower. If I had the time I would show the greek of each time it is used. In ALL CASES...it means no response.

Drawing is not the same thing as enabling. Drawing is to "entice" or make something desireable or attractive. Enabling means to turn something on. The Bible doesn't use "enable", it uses "draw".

how about didomi {did'-o-mee}

1) to give

a) of one's own accord to give one something, to his advantage
1) to bestow a gift
b) to grant, give to one asking, let have
c) to supply, furnish, necessary things
d) to give over, deliver
1) to reach out, extend, present
2) of a writing
3) to give over to one's care, intrust, commit
a) something to be administered
b) to give or commit to some one something to be religiously observed
e) to give what is due or obligatory, to pay: wages or reward
f) to furnish, endue
3) to give
a) to cause, profuse, give forth from one's self
1) to give, hand out lots
b) to appoint to an office
c) to cause to come forth, i.e. as the sea, death and Hell are said to give up the dead who have been engulfed or received by them
c) to give one to someone as his own
1) as an object of his saving care
2) to give one to someone, to follow him as a leader and master
3) to give one to someone to care for his interests
4) to give one to someone to whom he already belonged, to return
4) to grant or permit one
a) to commission

I don't care what the "many" say, what does the Bible say?
As you have seen...this is what the Bible says.

I know you can go on for days, I've seen some of your marathon posts

Yes..then you know how much I dislike this new layout that limits post to 25000 words. :) The no responce...yes this has been shown. You changed a few words to fit your understanding...but het...that's the way it is. If I have time later..i'll give you more verses

Nice joke.

Now back to the subject..

Actually jayless arthur, I agree with most of what Calvin says, as does the Bible. It is too bad that you arent the spokesman for the free willers, as I have a real problem with people who think they are superior to others. Just as soon have you on the other side.
