Would be easier to accept by many icon if you had said " They cannot do it as what they are believing is what seems unbiblical.

Just sayin'

Hello Hank,
I do understand what you are suggesting. It might be considered more acceptable or tactful to say it in those terms.
My somewhat pointed comment had in view not all men, lol
It has in view many who will attack a view on some emotionally based attack, but when questioned and asked to provide a biblical basis for what they say......they are exposed as having no basis in fact for the claim.
People are free to post any idea......but if they retreat like a turtle in a shell when they cannot answer or give a reason for their comments , perhaps they should refrain from objecting to what they do not understand..

Well, on the other hand, how then will they learn?
That's why they are here presumably under the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Tact - it is an art. One which I haven't mastered myself.

HankD,

Well, on the other hand, how then will they learn?
My thought would be....
they ask a question, or just attack....
they get a response, followed by a question and a request to back up what they have suggested....
after awhile they might grow weary and frustrated of being unable to answer-
this leads some to study looking for the answer- when they discover that no one has the answer they are looking for, maybe they reconsider, learn , and grow...

If a person asks sincere questions, they get sincere answers from many on here.
Those with an agenda and hostile intent need to be confronted.
A different view is fine if the person offers solid biblical reasons for their view. on the other hand we see this sometimes;
12 A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.

13 He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;

14 Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.

15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.

Well, don't overlook this one icon...

2 Timothy 2
24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

God's success requires God's methods.

FWIW, I think you do fairly well in this area, a little improvement wouldn't hurt - me either.

I'm still here. I haven't posted that much like I used to 10-15 years ago due to the popularity of Facebook and Twitter, plus I attended a church other than Baptist for a few months. My wife and I are worshipping at a relatively new SBC church plant in our current city, after (strangely) attending a very liberal, ecumenical CBF church in a nearby city.

We seem to be missing some regular posters that I have not seen in a while. Are people getting tired of this board?
I'm still here and I do post occasionally, although not with the frequency I have done in the past. Sometimes I feel like posting in a discussion but hesitate because I know I won't get back for several days, even weeks, and I don't want to appear trollish. Also the format is not as user friendly as the old one was. That being said, it's a good forum and I enjoy it thoroughly, one or two posters excepted. I see one of those has been banned recently and the forum is a better place for banning him.

I don't post here very often anymore because it's so slow and because most of the topics just aren't very interesting. That's not anybody's fault we're just in a rut.

The neighborhood on BB has changed considerably and I'm not quite sure I like the changes.

When I first joined it was very different. Nearly everybody got along.

There was one [Edited] who was inclined to abuse his [Edited] privilege and "punish" you if you disagreed with his taste in music but he's no longer [Edited] and appears to have calmed down and learned to get along better with people. I've actually had some very nice conversations with him since I've come back from the one year ban imposed on me for defending my children. It's disappointing that [Edited] now and I miss talking about music with Mr Curtis. But overall it's a nice place.

I too, used to be a regular poster. The way that the board has changed makes me agree with Padredurand (whom I really enjoyed reading his posts) in saying that participation in this board is no longer on my "need to do list". I sometimes return to read and get a laugh but seem to always leave saddened by what is happened to this board. I am doing well, and pray for my brothers and sisters.

As soon as you quote any saying from Poor Richard's Almanac, e.g "Early to bed, early to rise, makes man healthy, wealthy and wise." You are quoting the great libertine Benjamin Franklin. And when are we going to stop quoting him?

Some actions have occurred since I last posted here that have made me regret saying BaptistBoard isn't a bad place. It's gone downhill greatly.
