There is no way to understand Genesis in a literal fashion to get those extreme ages in the Creation account! Either the scriptures are inspired and historically accurate of the history recorded down, or else Darwin was inspired!

I read Genesis 1 in literal fashion and have no problem with an old universe. The fossil record, for the most part, only shows the order of burial do to water and not origins. Disagrements are matters of interpertation, and disagrement on account of different presuppostions that are being made. At issue is what is actually true. Wishful beliefs do not make anything true. And most of what we know is from the witness of others.

The word of God does not teach that, Genesis 2:17. What the word of God does teach is death became do to sin. Not the same thing.

Basised on an expanding universe from an origin, the age of the universe is calculated to be about 13.7 billion years.
Now there is a spruce tree in western Sweden believed to be 9,550 years old. If that is correct that pushes the date of the flood before that. Now Noah is tenth from Adam. So the 6 days of Genesis 1 would be something over 10,000 years ago.

That's assuming the flood killed the spruce tree.

This is undoubtedly true. There can be intense pressure to succumb or be made to look very foolish and even risk a lower grade.

And arguing YEC is a lost cause in such cases. Appearance of age is a terrible argument to make with an unbeliever, as it essentially denies reality. It is as unrealistic as arguing appearance of design.

American education is among the worst in the industrialized world. Big city schools are horrible. I live near a suburban high school where over half the girls are pregnant and the school mascot is a dead rabbit. They used government ID to copy their names whenever they have to write them. They had a clock tower at the school entrance but they had to redo it and change it to digital.

Cut them in half and count the rings, of course. Seriously, twenty years of development and activity will inevitably result in obvious signs of wear and tear. Brand new would exhibit no scuffs, no scratches, no dents, no dings, no callouses, no scars, no wear and tear, no aging effects inside or out.
