"contextual" should never mean anything goes. and "missiological" is the latest buzz word to justify anything goes.

glfred said: Of note, from the Scriptures, is Paul's use of the writings of Greek philosophers to approach the lost at Mars Hill. He set a precident for using the materials at hand to point to Christ.

Can you please supply the scripture reference where Paul used their writings?

No... But I can see why some who are not actually doing missions might think so, and further, after seeing the multitude of various arguments, opinions, positions, whether founded or unfounded, coherent or inchoerent, on just this board, I can understand why someone might not get something like missiological or contextual. Just does not compute for some folks who's main practice is to slap someone who does not believe like them across the head with their big black Bible.

I'm sure that is working out well for their missionary activities (or lack thereof).

just thinking that weneed to avoiding giving the apperance of accepting Islam as being a viable world religion, that their Holy Book revelation by God as Bible is, that Allah same as God, and that they actually honor jesus as messiah!

NONE of that would be true, and just seeing that church seems to be getting inable and unwilling to say that Islam is a false religion, false god, false book and prophet!

I note from reading said article cited above that there is NO statement from Warren himself other than the quote where he affirms that Islam is not correct.

Lots of people blogging ABOUT Warren, very few actually talking to him and citing what HE says. I smell a rat...

We've been SAYING that about Islam for all of its shady history...

They've (Islam) been converting by the sword, not by their "holy book" (which no one really understands, not even Muslims, for it is a train of thought exercise that makes little sense to anyone -- I've read it -- wonder if anyone else has?). Christians with a contextualized missional mindset are merely capitalizing on some of the similarities between the stories found in the Koran and the Bible in order to PRESENT A GREATER TRUTH.

My next question is. how many here arguing about Islam have ever actually witnessed to Muslim people -- and how many have found some success? Did that success come from slaming them with a Bible and telling them what they had to belive, or did it come from a basis of loving relationship, a willingness to learn of their cultures and beliefs before beginning to share our own?

I know multiple missionaries to Muslim people -- most who are converted Muslims themselves -- they tell me what worked for them and what works for others in their community, and none of it matches up to what I'm hearing here on the board.

    Fred,

Would you pray to the Muslim god when with Muslims?

I think that we are on same thought regarding this...

Totally against trying to merged/alliance with Islam, as if stating that Christians/Muslims recognize each other as having same God, and respecting each others holy book and prophets!

THAT is the part really against, and just asking rick to state what he thinks on that!

WOULD agree with using cultural methods, "way they do things" and reach out to evangelise them!

I just heard a sound bite on this on a Christian radio station (AFR) and they said Warren had signed off on an agreement that Christians will not try to convert Muslims in the Kings Way program. If that is so then this is really no more than Warren blending in his flock within the world. Which is unbiblical. If he was doing this to evangelize the Muslims then it would make sense(from his view). But to agree not to evangelize puzzles me. I guess I'll suggest my church go ahead and side up with the Lions club or local pub just to be friends. I really don't understand Warren here, unless he is being deceptive.

So Warren says islam is not correct; but his staff is saying something else; his staff is doing something else; and we're not seeing where Warren is stopping his staff and telling them to get on board with what he's saying.

    Actions vs. words?

Would Apostle paul had signed that agreement?

Did peter and John heed men, or heed Jesus?
