    Self-righteousness in Christianity

It didn't "turn into" arguing about arguing....it always WAS about "Arguing about arguing"... It's unfortunate..but sometimes one has to place things into perspective. Luke is trying DESPERATELY to define the proper parameters of an "argument" or truth-claim.... in a way, you do know that your...

    Are we reaching men?

Seriously?? Please tell me that the inestimable (I do admire him in many ways) JoJ...did NOT actually say anything like this, perhaps you misunderstood him? What did he say to the woman in Mark chapter 8 about how one doesn't feed to "dogs" that which belongs to "children"...Jesus was never...

    Are we reaching men?

Sounds to me like you have this covered....I don't quite recognize how grampa's status as an (Italian) is more signifigant than mine as a (Norwegian)...but, perhaps you only mentioned it as an ancillary fact. Anyway...this Italian Grampa of yours sounds like a man that I'd be proud to know...

    Are we reaching men?

Agreed....It is an interesting fact that the first man mentioned in the Bible as being "MEEK" was Moses....yes...Moses. Not a metro-sexual Jeremiah who was crying or squelching all the time...but MOSES...(Charleton Heston) if you prefer... A MAN...his PRIMARY attribute was strength...

    Are we reaching men?

I rarely...use ANY word without knowledge of BOTH it's "denotative" and it's "conotative" meaning...you requested that I etymologically research the "conotative" meaning of that word (I already thought I knew it) but, I did so... I learned NOTHING that I didn't already know.... I used the...

    Are we reaching men?

You are "Spot-on"....I was in construction for 7 years....I was in the Marine Corps for 4: Marines always HATED the Navy Chaplain, because, he "cussed" like them and in his own (idiot) mind, that made him palatable...It didn't..They actually hated hearing a chaplain cuss....He thought it...

    Self-righteousness in Christianity

I must agree....sorta....but my initial assertion was that truth WASN'T relative..as I recall, you posted a difficult or disputed equation designed to challenge that notion. The sole purpose of which was to take mathematically challeged morons (such as myself) and to demonstrate that the...

    The SBC...and Slavery cont....

Hold on..lemme get this straight: According to you (Alvin) you are "just" an "old Baptist Preacher"....who was non-committal about his views on homosexuality in Baptist Churches or what he was convinced of with respect to what the Bible taught on such topics...and YET.....you were simultaneously:

    Being upfront

This is an interesting idea. I don't wholly disagree with you...I am not committed to the idea that there should be a split in the SBC....but I don't think the world would end so to speak if it did...I think it's a suggestion worth considering. I think you probably have a valid point here...

Not Sure If This Is The Right Place

So....You are not entirely sure what the appropriate forum for the suggestion of a Baptist "Papacy" would be... and yet you have the confidence to suggest a particular candidate for the position of Pope. I admit, I'm intrigued. You have MY attention...All ears: Simple clue, A Modest...

    Being upfront

    NO...it isn't... I do NOT relegate the "Cal/Arm" debate to a carpet-color one.

    Being upfront

Lemme pose a scenario: Would you invite (as a Senior Pastor) an "Arminian" or brilliant and informed "Molinist" to apply as a viable candidate for an Associate's position at your churches? SHOULD a dedicated Calvinist (Senior Pastor) knowingly hire an Associate Pastor who was truly dedicated...

    Being upfront

Gents...This is a REAL issue of our age...I LOVE my Calvinist brethren....but it's a discussion which MUST be understood within context. Strangely....it isn't "us vs. them" It's whether we should Associate.....and it's not an easy discussion to have.
