Why Do You Believe What You Believe?

Come from IFB ultra-conservative and married a KJVOer whose way more conservative than me. We both went to a hard core fundie dispie school (not KJVO though). I was fast on my way to be an outspoken voice for dispensationalism and pre-trib eschatology. Now I'm reformed and even liberal in some...

I'll take your word for it, I guess. Still seems silly to me.

Mneh To each his own I guess. Still think your moniker is comically at odds w/ a Fran Chan book. But hey, I have no right to judge.

    Brethren and Sisterin

So you don't believe in male only eldership? Women preach to you? After all, "in Christ there is no difference, no male and female." Here's the deal. I have given reasons for my preference. And I have given reasons against yours. All you have done is stated your preference. At least your use of...

Why Do You Believe What You Believe?

Because John Calvin says so... or not :D Question #3 seems kinda ridiculous. Why would someone believe it if they felt they were wrong in their belief? #5 most definitely... I'm the black sheep of my alma mater and theological upbringing.

    Brethren and Sisterin

I love how you keep spouting how "siblings" is better but not demonstrate why nor answer the reasons against that I've offered. And by "love" I mean "hate"... see the difference in denotation and connotation?

    Beheading Videos

So would you vote with the Yes and I still do category? Just reading your post and your observations gave me visuals and made me nauseous.

    Is your church THIS yet?

I think that is what the OP was getting at. But the demographics would argue that millennials are leaving the entertainment focused, seeker-sensitive churches for the litrugical ones. So do with that what you will.

    Is your church THIS yet?

No offense, but this shows how behind you are. 1) This video has been around a while. 2) This kind of Christianity is out of vogue, or quickly becoming so. I can say that b/c the demographics are showing that millennials are leaving these churches and going... to Catholic...

    Beheading Videos

Forgive my morbid curiosity. (public poll) I have seen a few of them... and I am totally repulsed horrified and now afraid to die that way as a result. I can't bring myself to watch these kind of videos anymore knowing it is real and it is my brother or sister. I literally get sick. And I feel...

    Your favorite Bible Translation

I got a free HCSB when I stated at SEBTS :D I like the '84 edition better. I have to switch back and forth every day and found the older one to be easier to read and memorize. In the end, I am moving towards the ESV b/c that is what reformed Chrsitians are supposed to do... and I like it as...

Best book besides the Bible of 2015

I would read either John Stott or N. T. Wright because I would venture a guess that you have read neither of them. Not Wright's best work, but important as far as eschatology goes. And Stott's book that you have is a standard. After that, Sproul's book on holiness is a great one.

Since it was mentioned... SEBTS also has ATS accreditation as well. So it is not just the regional accreditation. http://www.sebts.edu/about/Accreditation/default.aspx

    Brethren and Sisterin

I still object to "sibling" because it does not have the relational connotations that "brothers and sisters" have. It captures the denotative value of the plural "brothers/brethren" when referring to the family of God as you put it. But translation is more than transferring a denotation. If...

    Convince me of Amillennialism

Jesus comes back, resurrection occurs, the general judgment takes place, then comes the end (eternity). Amillism is the simplest of all scenarios. Kinda like what Paul wrote, Jesus comes and then the end when the kingdom of is consummated (implying it is already here in some form): 1Co 15:23...

    Brethren and Sisterin

The nice thing about "sibling" is that it does put both sexes into 1 word. However, at least the part of the word I'm from, if I addressed my congregation as "Siblings, may the God of all grace bless you...", that would sound forced and unrelational. I think the function of its use in the NT is...
