For those who want to know the Free Grace view of calvinism / arminianism...

Are you a Calvinist or Arminian?

I believe in following the scriptures, so I voted "Calvinist" because that position best represents biblical soteriology. I prefer to call it "fundamental" or "reformed" since I do not follow John Calvin; I follow the scriptures. But, the moniker stuck and it's here to stay I guess.

    the sin nature

Sounds like Craig would agree with Pelagius: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pelagius What a surprise! (Heavy sarcasm)

    What is wrong with Arminianism?

Charles, You make a good point. I appreciate the fact that my church, which is definitely Cavlinistic soteriologically, has never used the "C" word in any teaching or preaching. I've never heard the "5 points" mentioned. We simply enjoy solid Bible teaching. That is the reason I like John...

    What is wrong with Calvinism

Craigbythesea, It amazes me how you can call Calvin's teaching on predestination and election a "non-biblical doctrine." Why don't you enlighten us on what you do with the dozens (maybe hundreds) of texts that deal with God's calling, election and predestination?

    What is wrong with Arminianism?

Gina, I am sorry for offending, I didn't mean to. The issue of Calvinism vs. Arminianism on these discussion boards USUALLY involves a bunch of ill-informed people calling Calvinists heretics or similar. I posted this as part humor/part serious as a response. Please forgive me if I offended...

    What is wrong with Calvinism

Ron, I love it that you posted John 1:12 - now, how about the next verse? "who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." Did you read that, Ron??? Not of the will of man? Not of the will of the flesh? But of God? Sounds like a Calvinistic...

confused about Calvin (Page 21) Round two

Scott J: Thank you for clarifying the issue with "Me4Him"'s posts. You're right, he evades with numerous questions and oddly placed quotation marks. You never quite get an answer from his posts...

    Calvinist or Arminian

webdog, So then, you got saved because of the faith that you had in your fallen man? Is that what you are saying? If so, then why did you "choose" Christ and others not? If they have the same potential to "receive" Christ as you, then why do some perish? I'm not trying to be sarcastic; I am...

    What is wrong with Calvinism

Ron, Read John 3, the story of Nicodemus, and tell me what you think Jesus meant in verse 8.

    What is wrong with Arminianism?

This post should get a lively discussion started. The following was written by Rev. Steven Houck and can be found at the URL below the quote: 1. The Christ of Arminianism - loves every individual person in the world and sincerely desires their salvation. The Christ of the Bible - earnestly...

    What is wrong with Calvinism

Here is an excellent article on how and when the TULIP doctrine, as it is sometimes known, was defined: http://www.apuritansmind.com/TULIP/McMahonTipToeThroughTULIP.htm There is good discussion of how the Calvinistic doctrine goes all the way back to the scriptures...

    What is wrong with Calvinism

Ron, I'm not Dr. Bob, but let me tell you that your ridiculous rants that Calvinism is a false gospel is insulting and embarrassing for you. Do you have any idea what you are talking about? The biblical gospel is exactly what Calvinism teaches. Read this for an excellent perspective from...

    What is wrong with Calvinism

Craigbythesea challenged me as follows: "I assume that you also have studied the history of the interpretation of the Bible throughout the entire history of the Church from many points of view and that you have a large collection of the writings of the ancient church to back up what you have...

    What is wrong with Calvinism

:) :) Where are you getting your straw men? If anyone is actually interested in the truth of what a Calvinist believes, please ask. These diatribes from Ron are embarrasing.

    What is wrong with Calvinism

This is a blatantly false statement that contradicts the facts of history. Calvin and others introduced into the church five grossly serious errors that wildly CONTRADICTED THE TEACHINGS OF THE CHURCH FOR 1500 YEARS, teachings that are solidly based upon the Bible rather than the foolish...

    God responsible for evil?

Well, Linda, I'm sure you would have to reject the following theologians/preachers/authors based on your fear of Calvinism... Edwards, Whitefield, Spurgeon, MacArthur, Watson, Baxter, Henry, ALL THE PURITANS, and the list goes on. You need to understand what you think you know and are afraid of...

    God responsible for evil?

Linda, A far cry from what Paul wrote?? You must be kidding!! Read Eph. 1, Romans 8 and Romans 9 and see how often Paul teaches on election and predestination. Good grief It is not a refutation based on character assassination if it is true--and it is true. R.C.Sproul is a partial Preterist...

    What is wrong with Calvinism

craigbythesea, It would be better to list the 5 points of the Remonstrance before posting the rebuttal by the Synod of Dort (now known as 5 points of Calvinism, although Calvin didn't write them). And, it is most definitely better to post them without the biased commentary that you provided...
