Master's of Divinity and Master's of Theology

My ThM thesis has to be 120 pages... that's seems pretty short even for a DMin dissertation.

Salvation: A Gift or a Reward?

If God knew Adam would sin, and God cannot be wrong, isn't that pre-knowledge still determinative? In other words, for God to know something before hand, also knowing full well it must happen the way he knows b/c he cannot be wrong, and then to go ahead with it anyways is still a predetermined...

Why would anybody want to be a Calvinist?

For the record, I used to be opposed to calvinists myself, so I understand the mindset and prooftext you are using b/c I used them too. With that said, it might be easier to explain how I NOW read those passages. 1) 1 Jn 2:2 - John's use of "world" is a bit complex since it has a number of...

Why would anybody want to be a Calvinist?

This is hypocrisy imo. And since I have a right to my opinion, you can't do anything about it. Right??? Second, I've never called you ignorant. So you over-generalization of calvinists is a bit offensive. Lastly, I think it is cute that calvinists here are calling the system "Doctrines of...

Salvation: A Gift or a Reward?

We've all heard before that spiritual death does not mean inability. However, considering the deplorable nature of death and all that goes with it, I think the connotation of being dead is inability by the very detestable nature of a corpse and the concept of death in the mind of the ancients...

Why would anybody want to be a Calvinist?

To answer the opening question... I'm a calvinist b/c I believe it best represents the whole teaching of Scripture.

Why would anybody want to be a Calvinist?

Isn't this hypocrisy? Not only are you over-generalizing ("calvinists have no respect for non-cals..." and everything else you said) but... Then you talk about the right to believe whatever, although you have called the calvinist doctrine hellish or the likes (I believe it was you, though I...

    Are You a Calvinist or a Non-Cal?

That was my original point. Calvinists should not be ashamed to say they are calvinists no matter what people believe that to mean. You know what it means, say what you mean, and label yourself. I'm not bent out of shape w/ labels as some are. It doesn't bother me.

    Are You a Calvinist or a Non-Cal?

Wouldn't that be a distinction w/out a difference? I mean there is not that much difference between "are you a calvinist" vs. "do you consider yourself a calvinist"... Not to pick at you (although I believe a damnable doctrine according to you), just thought I would point out that there is...

    Are You a Calvinist or a Non-Cal?

I think some people are so wary of being labeled, that they need everything minutely defined. I'm a calvie... you can mix me up with others as well. I don't mind so long as you hear me before you cast judgment on my position. And for the non-cals (a nice way of putting it if you ask me)...

1st Century fragments of N.T. Discovered

JB... if, as many are now coming to admit, that most errors are traced back to the 2nd century and the continuation of those errors geographically extended into the families we have today; wouldn't a 1st century Egyptian Mss be most helpful in (1) establishing that our text is consistent w/ what...

God allows but does not author evil

Interesting that grammatically that is not necessarily so based from 1 Pet 1:1-2. I think John of Japan's son is pointing out something like this in his upcoming dissertation. For example, what exactly is κατα προγνωσιν? Is it "elect" or "exiles" or perhaps "dispersion" (a closer antecedent)...

Pre Mil, pre-trib (or mid trib) question

Pray tell why would I do that??? I have asserted nothing about the way you believe and then go on to tear it down. Not in the least as you have just done. If you have a problem w/ my first name or the Greek language I put before it when I was taking a Hebrew class which my professor...

1st Century Ms discovered? Wallace says so!

No... I'm on a missionary extension near the end of my ThM. I am a NT studies major (if that as what you call it). I am looking at PhD options when I finish. There is much to weigh.

was there even a Common Source For First 3 Gospels?

I am reading the dissertation version on my nook of the progressive publication of Matthew view (you can get it at SATS website). I find it very intriguing. Being influenced by David Black, I find his 4-fold gospel hypothesis convincing. But this theory actually answers some really good...

1st Century Ms discovered? Wallace says so!

Dude... I googled you! I remember MAR talking about you in class. I think he liked your thesis a lot. Care to state the results of your research. I thought it was very interesting and tedious. How did you manage it? Anyways, did you offer anything to help argue for the PA inclusion...

1st Century Ms discovered? Wallace says so!

Gettin' a little worked up... I admit. Turns out, Jon and I may have seen each other on campus. I certainly concur that MAR is a "Mac-Daddy of NT textual criticism." What was/is your thesis on? When did/are you graduating? I'm doin' my ThM w/ Dr. Black. I have to admit, it was these two...

1st Century Ms discovered? Wallace says so!

Maurice Robinson beat you pointing this out to me ;) However, the concept of the trash heap is a bit different in the mind of a KJVO. For them, those Mss should be thrown out b/c in their opinion it is not the pure word of God. Little bit different than what Luijendijk argues.

1st Century Ms discovered? Wallace says so!

I'm not excited b/c I think it will confirm any textual variants, although I think it has the chance to do so (I'm not a critical text guy any more than a Byzantine guy). I'm more excited about the prospect of what it could mean for synoptic studies and the dating of Mark. And let's be...
