Everyone has his/her won view of the DP. As a "Lawn Odor" person & a former cop, I'm in favor of using it more, & that won't change. "To each, according to the dictates of his/her own conscience."
In the Rostov region of Russia, a serial killer, Andrei Chikatilo, operated for some 12 years. Russial even asked Scotland yard for help in identifying this killer. Finally, he was IDd & arrested.
He received a trial better than anyone in America has ever received! He was given a battery of the best defense lawyers in Russia, & was allowed to call in as many expert witnesses as he wished. He was on trial for 52 murders, while still a suspect in several more. His trial lasted several months. He was found guilty & given the DP.
He was housed in Novocherkassk Prison, in Rostov, from where he filed an appeal for clemency to then-Pres. Boris Yeltsin, who rejected it. Shortly afterward, one evening, he was taken from his cell by a quaternion of soldiers to a soundproof room in the prison, & tied to a chair. One of the soldiers shot him in the back of the head with his Moisin-Nagant rifle, & a detail of inmates was brought in to clean up the mess, place Chikatilo's body into a body bag, & load it into the back of an unmarked panel truck, which drove off into parts unknown. The next day, news of the execution was released to the news media.
That's the way executions should be done here, IMO.
