A couple questions and an observation:
1.
And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now. John 2:10
If the wine in this verse is alcoholic wine (as many have stated in this thread) and the "men have well drunk" (leading us to believe they are at least mildly inebriated) wouldn't that mean that by Jesus creating more wine He is not only condoning their drunkenness, but is perpetuating it? Does this not contradict all those verses against drunkenness that have been posted earlier?
2.
Since no one can know prior to their first drink whether or not they are prone to alcoholism, why do so many Christians find it necessary to condone drinking when it could lead to the fall of a brother? Why drink alcohol at all?
Observation
From personal experience I can state as fact that my not drinking has not only benefited my testimony with fellow Christians, but has also made a positive impact on those not saved. Hypothetical... If you go to a restaurant and are seen drinking several drinks by a weak brother or an unsaved person just looking to throw stones or find fault, are you not hindering God's work, weakening your testimony, and possibly hindering someone from choosing to follow Christ?
I don't know 100% whether or not alcohol in moderation is sin, and I certainly don't believe it is unpardonable sin, but if just one drink taken can possibly be a detriment to someone's walk or another's possible salvation, is that not sin?
It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak. Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth. And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin. Rom 14:21-23
Will rewards be taken away at the judgment seat of Christ for that? I don't think drinking alcohol is worth that risk.
If you want to drink, fine. It won’t hinder my walk and I sure hope it doesn’t hinder others’, but I sure would like to know what it is about alcohol that makes some Christians so militantly opposed to giving it up.
