I know this is the ladies' open forum, but since there's not a thread like this for the men, I hope you all don't mind.

Caught a couple of rabbits the other night.

Grilled them and paired them with some preserved lemon slaw, okra, butterbeans, cornbread and some of the biggest stalks of asparagus I've ever seen, given to us by some Amish friends of ours.

Don't know if you've ever had grilled asparagus, but there's just no other way to cook it. It gets crispy and carmalizes and it's fantastic.

It always sounds so scrummy reading what folks are dishing up....

I had the slow cooker out because it was freezing cold (in my opinion) and because I am jobless, paying taxes in 2 countries and not getting any benefits.... I am finding the most economical cuts of meat for those days that are not meatless (most )....I did a mean stroganoff a la Me....with lots of veg to make it as wholesome as possible.

Incidentally what is Kentucky Spoon Bread......that sounds interesting.

I thought I would cook up an American Pumpkin Pie for the Americans here.....can someone direct or give me a good one....it will not have canned pumpkin (which I cannot buy anyhow) but the rest is more about the proportions required. Granny Gumbo gave me one several years ago but I have misplaced it and she does not post on the all Christian sites anyhow.

Ta Friend of God, cooked up the pumpkin pie for the yankee boys, did I do right serving it up with whipped cream....they are too polite to tell me if it was okeydokey or not....I did not realise it is generally served hot, I served it cold.

For folks who have cooked roast pork, how do you serve up the crackling? This is a new dish for me and I have only ever eaten it once in my 50 odd years.....yep thats me....culinary adventures in later years:tongue3:

When I cook for these fellas, I leave on serving the dinner....so I never really get to see the results on consumption.

Incidentally "Dressed Up" cheesecake as opposed to dressed down or undressed?

You're welcome. You did the Pumpkin Pie perfectly. It can be served hot or cold, and with or without whipped topping. "Dressed Up" just means I put a topping on the cheesecake.

Tonight is Beef Stroganoff [in the crockpot], Cheddar Biscuits. Pecan Tossed Salad, and Deep-Dish Blueberry Pie for dessert.

yeah, pumpkin pie can go both ways, but we usually serve it cold or at room temperature. Now you need to try making a pecan pie. Mmm-mmm.

Dunno about the cracklinG, though. We usually just cook a ham and do that in a covered pan. Speaking of which, I may try to get one for this weekend...

We re supposed to have lasagna tomorrow night for our daughter's birthday. We've got to go and get the stuff in the morning to make it, or we may just buy a Stouffer's one.
