    Why bother?

"From morning till evening he explained and declared to them the kingdom of God and tried to convince them about Jesus from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets." -Acts 28 "Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade men. What we are is plain to God, and I hope it...

    Why bother?

Kind of begs the question to presume Paul believes as you do, don't you think? His use of persuasion only goes to support our premise, not yours. You have yet to explain where the persuasiveness of an appeal fits in your system logically.

    Why bother?

In Eph. 1-2, I see that God has predestined to adopt all believers regardless of their nationality. I don't see that God has predestined which individual from each nation will or will not believe. See HERE>>>>>>

    Why bother?

We don't believe the prayer is meant to inform God, but to beseech Him. You seem to equate God's knowing of what needs to be done with your view of God predetermining what needs to be done. Any parent here can tell you the difference in knowing what your child needs to do and your willingness...

    Why bother?

Or does the logic of your system lead there? But as long as he doesn't water down or neglect the gospel why would he seek in any way to be interesting? Wouldn't that only undermine the Calvinistic premise? That is my question here. But what does "proclaim it well" mean in a system where...

    Why bother?

    1. I reject the Calvinistic interpretation of the bible for their basis of TULI. 2. I accept the biblical basis for Original Sin, Corporate Election, Provisional atonement, Grace which appears to all man, and the promise of the Holy Spirit which seals all who believe (Eph. 1). 3. One...

    Why bother?

While there certainly is no shortage of misrepresentations and misunderstandings regarding terminology, there are some clear differences between what the two groups believe and teach. T - Calvinists believe that a lost man is born unable to willingly respond to God's appeal to be reconciled...

    Why bother?

It appears you misinterpreted my intent. I know there are dynamic Calvinistic preachers and dynamic Arminian preachers, and others...not so much. I'm not trying to create a caricature. I'm merely making the argument that if their is no value in persuasiveness or effective/interesting speech...

A simple word search will do it... Are you denying they exist, or you just wanting to deal with some of them specifically? I only ask because I don't think listing them will affect the point of the question.

    Why bother?

Ok, follow up question... the bible speaks of 'persuading,' 'pleading' and 'making an appeal,' in regard to the gospel presentation. How does this fit in a doctrine where a dry, boring reading of the facts would be sufficient to fulfill the necessary means? By the logic of Calvinism, wouldn't...

    Why bother?

Allow me to pose a question to our Calvinistic brethren: If God has preselected a particular number of people to effectually regenerate, and he will most certainly regenerate them despite what anyone else chooses to do; then why bother with all the efforts of reaching the lost with the...

“I was predestined to be an Arminian or I chose to be a Calvinist.”

There is nothing "free" about the compatibilistic definition of free will. I can explain why if you'd like, but you have to promise me to actually reply instead of disappearing like most have done when we get to this point in the debate. That seems to suggest that sin (a choice of man) can and...

“I was predestined to be an Arminian or I chose to be a Calvinist.”

So we have the choice between our error and God's actual truth...how do you propose we make that choice if you will not acknowledge free will? That doesn't explain why there are differences. Either God decided for those who are in error to be in error, or they did.

“I was predestined to be an Arminian or I chose to be a Calvinist.”

Jbh28, I don't like accusations of straw man without some explanation as to why you believe it to be misrepresentative. What specifically misrepresent Calvinism and why?

“I was predestined to be an Arminian or I chose to be a Calvinist.”

So you are either concluding that men like myself, Wesley, CS Lewis, AW Tozer, Billy Graham, JRR Tolkien and many others were not 'one of his own' OR that these men all freely chose to reject Calvinism (by which you are admitting that libertarian freedom is possible). Which one?

“I was predestined to be an Arminian or I chose to be a Calvinist.”

If I am wrong on my views of salvation and I stand before God and He asks, "Why did you believe wrongly about the doctrines of salvation?" Then, I could rightly claim, "God, you are the one who predestined me to believe this way. If you wanted me to be Calvinistic then you should have graced...

What all was Jesus wanting to accomplish while on earth?

Icon, I'm not attempting to argue that your view makes God the blame for man's sin. I'm saying that it was God's decision to bind all people from birth with a totally depraved nature as a result of the Fall. You haven't told us what is incorrect about that statement.

Did Adam and Eve have free will before the fall?

You sound like the typical 2-3 point moderate Baptist, and I challenge you to find any notable, or knowledgable scholarly Calvinist who would categorize you as one of their own. Again, I'm not trying to be mean, but I'm just telling you that I'm almost more Calvinistic than you are. What you...
