    The New Calvinism

This is hard for me to answer, b/c this is mostly speculation. That is why I have avoided saying anything. So treat this w/ what it is worth. I can imagine 1 of 2 things happening (well maybe 3). First, traditionally reformed churches are gaining popularity or growing. Second, those...

    Personal Relationship

I think this is where our different theology will bear itself in practice. I don't buy into a simply gospel "that anyone can understand" as you know. I am more concerned w/ the Holy Spirit leading than fear of their "being bored, overwhelmed, or put off."

    The New Calvinism

I don't think it is equated w/ NON-cessationism, but many pop-evanglical personalities (Driscoll, Chan, etc.) are charismatic. Much of it stems from Grudem's Syst Theo. It was very influential, and it is both calvinistic and charismatic. This breed, however, are not showy or emotion driven...

    Personal Relationship

And that's a bad thing? I would rather use Biblical terms and explain them than use unbiblical terms that, while may "speed up the process", may lead to confusion or misunderstanding.

Coming ‘Home’: When Missionaries Come Off the Field

Good words!!! Pastors, are you listening?

    Personal Relationship

The usefulness ship has sailed, IMO. The phrase has definitely lost its value or significance... whatever that was at first when it was used. But now, it is used so profusely, it is simply evangelical cliche, verbiage, and language. Not only that, it only works in the western world where we...

Notes in the Margins of Your Bible

Christians have been doing this for a long time now. It is a good practice. As for #2, the fragment aside and assuming you are saying you don't take many notes from those books, why would you not preach from them???? That is a sad commentary on the pastor who won't preach from certain...

    The New Calvinism

Just consider... this is a liberal news magazine (using term losely), that identified a resurgence within protestant evangelicalism in America as an idea, top 10 no less, that is changing the world. That tells me that this movement is larger than some here are considering. Like you, I don't...

    The New Calvinism

The renewed interest is the phenomenon. In fact, it was said to be one of the top 10 ideas changing the world right now by Time Magazine.

Any here have and use the Geneva As primary Bible?

I'd be curious as why anyone would. An out of date Bible... w/ far better options... makes no sense. [crickets]

    The New Calvinism

That is why I cited the Christianity Today article written back in '06 about this phenomenon. I abhor wikipedia.

    The New Calvinism

Give it a try. I recommend Shai Linne. He came out of Mark Dever's church (I think he even interned there?). His lyrics are very refreshing. I wish worship music were as theologically rich as his lyrics. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=shai+linne

    The New Calvinism

This was a start: http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2006/september/42.32.html It is basically a calvinus redivivus (in popularity that is). I would not call Driscoll the only spokesman. In fact, I would attribute much of its revival to Piper and other more respected reformed preachers...

    What is God's highest virtue?

Just to clarify, I'm not asking what God's greatest attribute is (I'd agree w/ holiness). I am asking what is God's greatest virtue... what is the best thing that God can and does do? God doesn't do holiness, he is holy. IMO, the best thing God does is to glorify himself.

wasn't the historical position of the Church was Literal 6 days/Young earth?

Disagree. What RCC exactly do is overemphasize the Lord's table based on an over literal (i.e. being literal when literal was not intended) understanding of many passages. Its a great example!

    One verse doctrine

I think it is assuming an unrepentant homosexual.

wasn't the historical position of the Church was Literal 6 days/Young earth?

Curious... do you have a verse that says to interpret literally? Cause I can point to Scripture that would indicate otherwise (see my siggie). And Quantom's example about a RCC understanding of the Lord's Supper is not an extreme view. That was a good example of a literal understanding of...

    What is God's highest virtue?

Again, this is not about the greatest attribute. And your quote demonstrates the futility of your idea. "As it relates to man..." but what about as it relates to GOD? And even God's loves for humans is not an end in itself. It is a means to an end... God's glory!!!

    What is God's highest virtue?

God is glorified by wrath as well as love... as well as a host of his other attributes. This is not a debate over God's greatest attribute. That misses the point. It's holiness by the way ;). The issue is, what is God's highest virtue? If love, then I would ask to what end is God's love...

    What is God's highest virtue?

So you agree that our highest virtue is to glorify God. Then what is God's highest?
