How Much of The NT Gospels Are Actual words of Jesus, Or Interpretation Of The Apost

This seems contradictory. If Matthew used shorthand to pen his account (likely used an amanuensis so yours is a moot point), then wouldn't it be less verbatim and more summary/nut-shell oriented?

    Romans 9

I think Schreiner's article is by far one of the best treatments on this issue at a basic level. "Does Romans 9 Teach Individual Election Unto Salvation? Some Exegetical And Theological Reflections," in JETS 36:1 (Mar 1993).

I'm glad you posted this. I wanted to know the pros and the cons. I have multiple ministry interests including teaching but not excluding church planting. I would love to be a "world traveler" of sorts and teach in up and coming areas like south africa or australia. But also, I enjoy writing...

    Interpretation of John 6:35-40

Absolutely! That was part of the gospel message... Gen 12:3 through Abraham all the nations would be blessed (Gal. 3:8). Election is not an end but a means to an end, the furtherance of the gospel and the way in which God's mission to redeem creation is to be accomplished. (I finished C...

How Much of The NT Gospels Are Actual words of Jesus, Or Interpretation Of The Apost

Don't get me wrong... I am not denying inerrancy or infallibility. I am saying that what the evangelists recorded was not always the exact words of Jesus (especially if he spoke something besides Greek). The evangelists were giving a theological account of Jesus, not a precise chronological...

How Much of The NT Gospels Are Actual words of Jesus, Or Interpretation Of The Apost

Now we are getting to a fun topic that has not been beaten to death (at least not here at this forum that I can tell). I think the gospel accounts are recording the voice of Jesus but not his exact words. This accords their differences (many that are unsolvable otherwise) between the...

    Grace: potential or actual

Really??? You are going to sit there and say you were misrepresented when just a few words earlier you claim I called you gutless???????? I said your accusation was gutless. If you make your accusations equate to yourself, then I would propose that you have some deeply rooted issues...

    Grace: potential or actual

This is a fruitless (and gutless) accusation to hurl at a position that does not agree w/ your view. We all believe we have the biblical view (otherwise we would change it as some of us have). And we all believe that our view adheres to the context of Scripture (which is why it is our view)...

    Would it help us if...

"Missional" is actually becoming a popular term (more popular in the UK). I just finished a book by Christopher Wright called Mission of God which I highly recommend. It is a good presentation of a biblical theology of missions but even more a missional reading of the Bible. God who is on...

    Faith a gift

I know why he doesn't understand... your grammar, punctuation, and syntax is quite poor. I had a hard time understanding you and I think we are on the same page theologically (I think).

Thanks for the info... I'm out of country right now so nowhere is convenient. But hopefully I will finish my ThM at SEBTS in a couple years (on missionary exemption currently). If I decide to leave the field, there are many options to travel or relocate. It is just a matter of convincing my...

What was paul actually Calling Phoebe in Romans 16:1?

No to the first I do not believe prophet or prophetess was an official position of the church... not in the way an elder/overseer and deacon was anyhow. So that would be a moot point for me. No to the last statement. I think Paul's advice for older women to teach younger women in Titus is...

    Would it help us if...

Come on guys... those are not that difficult. My textual position is not one easily defined so I came up w/ a term after a man who practices and wrote a book on a similar process. Ipsissima vox is a cool concept but really doesn't have to be listed, I just find it to be an interesting subject...

Is their reputation hurt by the fact that their program is only 42 hours as opposed to the traditional 60?

    Faith a gift

Ezekiels description of the New Covenant makes mention of this: Eze 11:19 And I will give them one heart, and a new spirit I will put within them. I will remove the heart of stone from their flesh and give them a heart of flesh, Eze 11:20 that they may walk in my statutes and keep my rules...

    Would it help us if...

we posted our labeled theological beliefs in 3 or 4 major areas where we mostly disagree? For instance, we could all posts a "resume" in our siggie to help from confusion. I often forget what someone's position is. It could look like this: Hermeneutic: messianic/christocentric & missional...

This is actually what I meant. I used "actual" when in fact "effectual" is just as good if not better. Thanks!

    Interpretation of John 6:35-40

Fair enough... BTW... I only mentioned Norman Geisler (aka stormin' Norman). He is a smart guy. You might also profit from his recent 4 volume systematic he put out. Volume 1 was pretty good since his forte is definitely truth, philosophy, and apologetics.

What was paul actually Calling Phoebe in Romans 16:1?

I'm not sure what I communicated, but I really did not consider your motivation for the thread. I actually thought it was a good one. I was just responding to the 2 sentences in your response and addressed them as 2 things. Sorry for making the confusion. Thank you. I would enjoy discussing...

A little "end time" confusion (Who is leaving?)

I disagree big time. I am Amill and not a covanter. Just as not all dispos are pre-tribbers. So it is not the only way to "get there." That's why you later qualified it as "10 covenant A Mills" [sic]. And it only lacks biblical support in your opinion. We can just as easily turn that...
