why Would We see prophecy as "Spiritual" Not Literal In Interpretation?

Maybe, but often many things are ascribed to covenant theology that is not at all relevant. For instance, I am amill but not a covenant theologian type. I would argue that Jesus lays this kind of hermeneutic down in Lk 24:44ff. It is a messianic hermeneutic and it is a missional hermenuetic.

what causes some to accept/reject Jesus Christ?

The Holy Spirit intervening and changing the heart towards repentance and faith.

A little "end time" confusion (Who is leaving?)

Maybe Snow is able to wear big boy pants and take the comment as it was intended... something I find difficult for you to grasp.

A little "end time" confusion (Who is leaving?)

I liked how you cited what the book was. Should be easy if you have a copy. Ryrie is without dispute a systematic theologian.

why Would We see prophecy as "Spiritual" Not Literal In Interpretation?

Who says we do this with just prophecy??? Why not practice a messianic/missional hermeneutic everywhere?

A little "end time" confusion (Who is leaving?)

That is not biblical theology but systematic theology. And those theologians you mentioned wrote systematics not biblical theologies. What bothers me is not that you are a dispo. WHat bothers me is that you system interpreted the Scripture in question rather than the text or the reader or...

A little "end time" confusion (Who is leaving?)

Was meant to be accusatory not mean spirited. I've seen this all too much - a reliance on a theological system rather than Scripture (even if I believe that theological system is right). Instead of answering the question w/ Scripture, he feel back to his system of a rapture and concluded...

A little "end time" confusion (Who is leaving?)

So easy to skirt around the obvious truth so long as you have your dispensational theology to fall back on.

    Literalness of Scripture

Not to be snotty, but what in the world does ellipsis have to do with any of the other categories above. An ellipsis has no bearing on being literal or figural.

Quite sad... how does this school compare to the Newburgh Seminary?

    Foreknowledge

Unless grace is an actuality not a potentiality. Grace is not something to respond to but something God has actualized in the lives of the elect.

Romans 7, understanding Romans 7:7-25 from chapter 6:16-23

But I'm not trying to argue that Paul was speaking to a Jewish audience in this case. My point is that the context before vv. 14ff. were about the Law. Thus Paul's preconversion self would be centered around the Law as a Pharisee. I think with that in mind, it makes perfect sense that he...

Romans 7, understanding Romans 7:7-25 from chapter 6:16-23

You may be very correct about "too absolute." But that was my point. Paul's pre-conversion self was a Pharisee who sought to please God with incorrect methods. And in that way, they do not seek to please God--the method prescribed by God through the cross.

Romans 7, understanding Romans 7:7-25 from chapter 6:16-23

Interesting comparison, but the temptation to sleep instead of pray is not quite so extreme as what Paul is detailing. And I believe you made my point why v. 18 in this context seems strange to apply to a regenerate person. I agree that the unregenerate man has no desire to do what is right...

Romans 7, understanding Romans 7:7-25 from chapter 6:16-23

I can't get past v. 18 referring to the saved person: "For I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but I cannot carry it out." Even if you take "flesh" to refer theologically to the sin nature (which I don't here), for Paul to...

    Baylor University

Not quite the case for Baylor (at least not in their religious studies dep.). They pay the tuition and a stipend for their PhD students. I would imagine it is nearly the same thing. But that makes it extremely competitive as well.

    Romans 7:14-24

The problem w/ the grammatical argument and basing everything solely on the present tense is that an illustrative principle would lose its force if it were past tense. Even good story telling is done in the present tense, even if it happened 50 years ago. What you have to keep in mind is that...
