    Putting the Spin on Spinoza

To me, nature reflects the reality of both good and evil. It has beauty but also horror. I don't believe God and nature are the same. That is pantheism, which I do not hold to.

Do you believe the once saved can again be lost?

First, I have never believed a person can lose his salvation, but I believe he can forfeit his salvation -- he can give it up, by a deliberate choice of his will. And I don't mean a simple change of mind. To me this is the unpardonable sin -- the final and total rejection of salvation by a...

Do you believe the once saved can again be lost?

And so, once again, you fail to acknowledge that Hebrews 6 states very clearly that it is possible for a person to fall away. Since that is stated first, deal with it first before you try to explain what comes after. Don't just try to twist or ignore that it is possible for a person to fall away...

Do you believe the once saved can again be lost?

And please do not change scripture to fit your beliefs. Hebrews 6 clearly states that it is possible for the saved to fall away, just like it was possible for Satan, a perfect being, to fall away, because he had free will, just like the angels, and us. What is at stake here is the nature of God...

Do you believe the once saved can again be lost?

I believe Hebrews 6. It clearly affirms that salvation can be rejected by those who once accepted it. And if they continue by a consciuos decision of their will to reject that salvation, they will not be renewed to repentance. What I am talking about in regard to Satan is that he had a choice...

Do you believe the once saved can again be lost?

So, your agreement is required to accept salvation, but then you are forcefully kept even if you later change your mind. Not logical. Not consistent with God's character or the free will that He gives all beings, even angels and Satan.

Do you believe the once saved can again be lost?

Hebrews 6. So, according to your logic, Satan could not have rebelled against God. But he had a free will, just as we all do. And by an act of that will, he turned from God, just as we can do, even after we are saved. Does God give us free will, up until we accept salvation, but then take it...

Do you believe the once saved can again be lost?

Even against their will? What if they change their mind and decide they no longer want God? Or do you believe they can't do that, if saved?

If we were still under the law...

We're all in the weeds and some of us are trying to get out.

If we were still under the law...

There's a difference between slitting an animal's throat every year as a remnant from paganism thinking that doing such placates a deity's wrath, and eating a fish for sustenance. When I eat seafood, I don't consider that the fish is my substitute for the sins I've committed.

    Ice Storm

We're still here. Went outside after daybreak to survey the damage. In addition to what I said in my last post, we have some large limbs hanging by a thread, very close to the house. If they fall, could be a major problem. No telling when power will be restored. Not getting above freezing until...

    Ice Storm

llen. Power out, running generator. Several big tree limbs have fallen, and a smaller one on house top. We have large trees around our house, and one large limb hanging over one room. This is very scary. Several more hours of precip to go, then turning much colder, and winds up. I hope and pray...

If we were still under the law...

Jeremiah 7:22 --- “For I did not speak to your fathers, or command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings and sacrifices." (NASB) I'm a pescetarian.

If we were still under the law...

So, you would slit the throat of some innocent animal every year to supposedly atone for your sins. I wouldn't. And I don't believe God would require it. I don't believe He required it under the Old Covenant, either.

    Ice Storm

Remarkably, we still have power, but there's still another round or two to come, in a couple of hours or so. This mess expected to be out of here by about noon Sunday. We've got our generator on stand-by.

If we were still under the law...

Some would undoubtedly consider me such. But I figure I'm on solid ground since Jesus quoted and agreed with the prophet Hosea, saying, "I desire mercy, not sacrifice".

    Ice Storm

Asking for prayers for us down here in the Deep South, as we are expecting a severe ice storm. This will be especially hard on us old folks.

    The Quaker revival

The East/Northeast is liberal theologically, generally, across the religious landscape. The Qukares in the midwest and west were more influenced by the Wesleyan revival, and so they tended to be more evangelical/conservative. Evangelical Quakerism and Wesleyanism are quite similar.

If we were still under the law...

I like what he said about the creation in Romans 8, and his views of the resurrection in 1 Cor. 15. I don't like his views about sacrifice.
