    Commonly misquoted bible verses

Sorry I didn't clarify when I said misquotes, I meant more of misapplied or misinterpreted.

    Commonly misquoted bible verses

What are some bible verses you have commonly heard misquoted? I am looking for a mixture of quotes unbelievers use but mainly bible verses that are taught wrong in Baptist Churches. Im doing a lesson on our need for discernment and to “prove all things”.

I am trying to get software to really help me with studying the Greek and Hebrew text of the Bible, Does anyone have an opinion on what is better between Logos or Accordance?

They Will Know You Are My Disciples If You Trash Heretics

The original post assumes that rebuke and love are mutually exclusive ideas which they are not. Eph 5:11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. Now I will qualify that some people "rebuke" others for not following certain manmade traditions or...

Bible Translation from Hebrew/Greek or English?

Yes it has been difficult.but I am slowly picking it up. I find reading Hebrew and translating into English to be rather easier, I get rather frustrated trying to go from English to Hebrew though!

Bible Translation from Hebrew/Greek or English?

Well, to be quite frank, I find learning dead language to be completely different from learning a living language. When I am in Uganda I will actually have speakers of Nubi that I can interact with and surround myself with, for Hebrew I can't do that. It is much easier to learn a living language...

Bible Translation from Hebrew/Greek or English?

Ok, so many of you may know, but I plan to spend my life reaching the Nubi tribe of Uganda, and they do not have the Bible in their language, I am currently learning Hebrew and Greek to prepare for it, the difficulty of Hebrew really has me thinking and question about Bible translation in...

    Two Approaches: Linguistics and Exegesis

I did not realize the SIL crowd is translating from English. Interesting stuff. This is kind of off topic, but somewhat relevant, this is video I took at the Museum of the Bible in DC:

    Hell has open borders...

Hell does not have open borders: 23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I...

Thomas Nelson Publishing Out Millions of $$$ for Fraud, Other Shenanigans

Thomas Nelson is the only one who publishes the King James Study bible (formerly called the Liberty Annotated Study Bible). Its a good conservative Baptist Study Bible, and Im thankful Thomas Nelson publishes it. I also appreciate the better typography Thomas Nelson is starting to use in...

Is the Master of Divinity Going Away?

I am doing a ThM which contains the MDiv through Andersonville theological seminary. I think I am paying 3,500 total for it. I'll be honest I wouldn't want to go and spend 50,000 on a MDiv if that's what it would cost. Ministry isn't exactly a money maker...

    Is the Greek reliable?

People like you are the reason why it's often hard to have actual meaningful conversations with people about the Bible translation issue. You come out here with all this non sense, don't even answers peoples questions and then when someone actually comes around trying to discuss things about...

    The Word for God

I am confused. are they deciding how to translate the word Theos? If so I would probably go with number 5, since that seems best to convey the idea of a supreme being, which is my understanding of God. John, how do you get Yahweh and Adonai transliterated from Theos? As for...

    Is the Greek reliable?

as a KJVO believer I want to go on record and say that I do not approve of the behavior of Heretic Hunter. People like Heretic Hunter do not adequately represent my position of holding to the KJV and I ask that those on the BB please do not lump all KJVO adherents with this kind of behaviour...

    New Living Translation

Ok so I pulled up some old notes of mine on 1st John 5:7. First of all only 5 manuscripts that even contain 1st John period are from 7th century or earlier. It is quoted by Tertullian (200AD), Cyprian (250AD), Priscillian (350AD), Idacias Clarus (350AD). Jerome said in his day that 1st John...

    New Living Translation

Yes because 1 John period is not in most Greek manuscripts. Going by your logic 1 John is not scripture. My point is that it gives a misleading inpression. 1 John 5:7 is found in latin manuscripts and is also quoted by some of the Church fathers.

    New Living Translation

This is a rather misleading statement. The manuscripts that have 1 John chapter 5 are very small in number to begin with.

    Premillennium, Amillennium, Postmillennium

Peter does not mention the Millenium anywhere in 2 Peter 3. Classic example of eisegesis.
