Does the call of Jonah teach us something about God?

Scan the top of the forum page for me Herald. What do you read? It says, "Forum for Calvinism/Arminianism Debate" What exactly are you expecting to find when you come to this forum? A video of John Piper teaching in a bed of tulips with a bunch of entranced college boys sitting at his...

    Good versus Evil

Reasonable request, but it was on my other computer so not sure where the specific quote came from, but if you google "Augustine privation of good free will" many of his teachings will come up. The point being that historically the "privation of good" doctrine still based the origin of sin...

    Good versus Evil

so you would agree with the quote below: Augustine defined evil as the privation of goodness, just as blindness is a privation of sight. Since evil is not an entity in itself, just like blindness is not an entity in itself, God could not have created it. Instead, evil originates from free...

    Good versus Evil

With all due respect, I'm not seeing the answer to my question. What is the difference in God doing any given act for his glory and His ordaining any given act for his glory? You've already established that his motive is what determines whether it is good or evil thus what is the point in...

    Good versus Evil

It's a question about Luke's view, not an assertion of my belief. We are in agreement that such a belief is in error but given Luke's previous comments on this subject, I believe the question is justified...

    Good versus Evil

I simply asked you to define for us the difference between God doing the sinful act and God ordaining the sinful act. You can answer that if you want, or you can choose not to reply.

    Good versus Evil

    What's the difference specifically?

    Good versus Evil

So, is that a yes? God does cheat, lie, molest, steal, rape for His own glory and thus it is not evil when He does it?
  9. Skandelon

    Good versus Evil

So if God lies, cheats, rapes, molests, steals, etc, etc, for the motive of bringing himself Glory it is not 'evil?' Right?

    I agree. Well stated.

    Good versus Evil

Good answer. I agree that God takes evil and uses it to bring about good, but that doesn't necessitate God determining the evil, right? In other words, God can bring about his purposes in, through and despite man's evil choices. That doesn't mean God determined their choices to be evil, right?

    Good versus Evil

If God has decreed (determined) all things to happen for His Glory and His Glory is the greatest good, then what determines whether an act is deemed good or evil? If all actions, choices and events that take place are decreed by God to occur for his greatest Glory then doesn't that make...

How do Arminians KNOW They are the Elect of God?

Ironic that the one who claims to believe in the sovereignty of God over the wills of man takes this approach. I guess God predetermined him to grow frustrated by Winman's predetermined will?

Does the call of Jonah teach us something about God?

Continually stating a falsehood over and over while ignoring your opponents own claims about his own view isn't helpful and doesn't make what you say true. I don't even know what salvation to election would look like. How is one saved PRIOR to being granted entrance into the banquet? Do you...

Does the call of Jonah teach us something about God?

Logic is as logic does. Proof is in the pudding.

Does the call of Jonah teach us something about God?

Very true! The use of outward means that are said to provoke or convince man to change their minds makes NO SENSE in a deterministic worldview. It would be like a guy with a puppet on one hand and a cattle prod on the other saying that the prod is his way to get the puppet to do what he wants...

Does the call of Jonah teach us something about God?

Ok, I'll play along with your limited and unrelated analogy. You would agree that every breath you are taking is God's doing. So, what would be the point in God sending you circumstance to make you breathe when he is already in control of your breathing. That is the point you are not...

What Are main Differences between Arms and Non cals?

It does only in regard to God's choice of who enters heaven (the banquet...whosoever beleives), but as I explained, there is an aspect of election which also proceeds faith...i.e. God's choice to graft both Jews and Gentiles into the vine...(the gospel sent first to the Jew and then the...

NOTE: I DID NOT CLOSE THIS THREAD. I DO NOT EVER CLOSE THREAD I'M ACTIVE IN NOR DO I MODERATE SOMEONE I'M ENGAGED WITH IN DEBATE. IT MAY APPEAR I DID BECAUSE I'M THE MODERATOR, BUT THERE ARE OTHER MODERATORS AND ADMINS WORKING HERE AND I CANNOT CONTROL WHEN THEY CHOOSE TO CLOSE A THREAD...
