    Author of Hebrews

You should know that Origen actually talked about Hebrews as if Paul was the author (speaker). And he may have meant "wrote" in the sense of recorded instead of authored. This short article by David Alan Black is quite enlightening if you are willing to learn...

    Author of Hebrews

What? We agree?!?! That said, I think a lot of the rhetorical value is its anonymity. Many places, the speaker simply says "somewhere it was written" or "someone said". I think this rhetorical function is to point ultimately to its divine author.

    Author of Hebrews

Not a letter but a manuscripted sermon. That much we know for fairly certain. I believe it was Paul's sermon recorded by Luke. This actually accords w/ church history and tradition quite well.

    Heaven or Earth

You tell that to the people who talk about how great it is going to be "when we all get to heaven" and never once give a single mention to new creation and resurrection. It has bred a generation of believers to look forward to a neo-Platonic, almost Gnostic desire for a bodiless existence on...

    Heaven or Earth

First question: that's what the Bible says! Rev 21:3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. Second question: This is typical of...

    Heaven or Earth

I can't believe this is even an issue. (actually I can, most Christians are Bible-illiterate) Humans were created to have a body (point of the resurrection) and to live in a material world (earth). God's goal has never been to take his people out of the world (i.e. rapture theology) but...

How do people do a PhD?

Ok... but that's not the question. How do guys afford to do it? If they relocate their family, how do they land a job first? Or do they move & live off of savings for a while until they land on their feet?

How do people do a PhD?

Helps greatly. Thanks, Brandon! Wouldn't mind hearing more about your experience at Calvin. They don't necessarily have what I'm looking for, but they sound like they have a good program for guys who are looking for them. Just fyi, the PhD I want may be for teaching, but it may just be for...

how many Calvinists here hold to Double predestination?

Have I done something to upset you? Or are you just in that kind of mood? If the latter, I get it. I get in those snarky moods often as well. Just wondering if I offended you in some way.

How do people do a PhD?

I'm still looking to hear how men w/ families go for a PhD financially (assuming a relocation is involved). Are those students given priority in on-campus employment? Do good schools help these guys get a job? Or is it just a crap shoot totally up to the guy to find something?

how many Calvinists here hold to Double predestination?

Which is why I don't have a problem w/ reprobation.

how many Calvinists here hold to Double predestination?

I'd say so. But I don't speak for all the reformed people of the world.

How do people do a PhD?

Good stuff, esp. the underline portion. Thanks, bro.

How do people do a PhD?

If I do one in the USA, Southern Baptist Seminary has a program in biblical theology that looks really intriguing. My ThM is in NT studies (finish this summer w/ thesis!!!), so I don't want to do more of that out of redundancy sake. And I've noticed that theologians make better pastors and...

How do people do a PhD?

I know this is a major component. I just want to know how people do it, especially those who want it bad[ly].

How do people do a PhD?

If they have a family, they need an income. If they work, they can only do 3 (maybe 6 credits) a semester. Then they have bills out the wazzoo w/o the open jobs to pay them. Am I the only one seeing the unrealistic nature of this process? The goal for getting a PhD in the USA is becoming...

Law & Liberty. The definition of legalism

Check my grammar. It was not a declaration but a question.
