Jesus never claims to be God in the synoptic gospels?

I am a maximalist when I approach the NT's dependence and use of the OT. I think Sailhamer summarized it best when he said, “The Old Testament sheds a great deal of light on the New Testament. Our primary objective should be to read the New Testament in light of the Old Testament, not vice...

Common sense is a modern notion! To answer your more salient points later.

Silence on the poll makes Calvies look like Cowards

Not sure the reason only 4 people have voted thus far (myself being 1 of them), but I would love to see more of you admit what you believe. Go here to vote on your view of the election of babies.

Jesus never claims to be God in the synoptic gospels?

Why is this not in the theology & bible study section???? I take "son of God" back to its OT origin as a statement of humanity for the king or an Adamic like figure (Exo. 4; 2 Sam7; Ps. 2 & 8). I.e., this applies to Israel or Israel's king. I think if we let the the OT and the 2nd temple...

    Reformed Theology & Catholicism

I think it would do you well to look into ecclesial structures in Europe. Many are like this, patterned after symbols because some in this world see symbolism as a good thing.

    Poll for Reformed/DoG/Calvinists only

I tend to think that one's status of election is dependent on God's free and sovereign choice, not on someone's age. The harsh truth for children is the same. God's choice is not based on our merit or lack thereof. Why would it be any different for children? B/c they are "innocent"? God has...

    "The New Calvinism" on PBS

I should add this sentiment too. I appreciate Archangel pointing this out. Didn't mean to sound abrasive in my above post. Sorry. I will probably show this vid to my 10th grade class... they know I'm a Calvie, they think it is crazy, and I just smile at them. Since we talked about the...

    "The New Calvinism" on PBS

Why did you call this thread "new calvinism"? That term wasn't used. It was just about the resurgence of Calvinism amongst baptists, particularly theSBC,... something they once embraced in the majority. This thread is a misnomer.

Liberty University Hires Open Homosexual Advocate to Choreograph ‘Mary Poppins’

You're probably right about the effect. The world really isn't watching LU constantly. Why the conservative, evangelical world is somewhat baffles me.

Liberty University Hires Open Homosexual Advocate to Choreograph ‘Mary Poppins’

Good grief people. What if LU hired a Democrat... you guys gonna get nervous in the service about that too!!! I bet this helps the schools reputation. But leave it to the right-wing brand of American evangelicalism to screw this up as well.

    Golden Gate Seminary to Relocate

I wonder what they'll change their name to... Southern California Baptist Theological Seminary? SCBTS? So Cal Sem? Or bite the bullet and call it Western Baptist Theological Seminary.

How do people do a PhD?

Another thought I had... I would think it would be very difficult to candidate at a church that has SBTS at its back door. In other words, they probably have applications out the wazoo! Finding a church might be more "competitive" than being accepted into the PhD program at SBTS!!!

How do people do a PhD?

Thanks for the helpful scenarios! I feared this would be the case if I were to pursue this. I don't treasure the idea of seeking to find a church ministry "job" in order to get me through my PhD only to springboard me to another ministry. Plus, I feel like these churches would be suspicious...

Repetition & Redundancy in the Scriptures

Psalm 136 may fit into your idea of redundancy: 136 Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, For His lovingkindness is everlasting. 2 Give thanks to the God of gods, For His lovingkindness is everlasting. 3 Give thanks to the Lord of lords, For His lovingkindness is everlasting. 4 To Him who...

Repetition & Redundancy in the Scriptures

Here's an interesting duplication amongst multiple authors (Greek is identical): 2Co 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ Eph 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ 1Pe 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ Some might argue that...

    Author of Hebrews

I just wanted to see that your points on Origen were mistaken. And as Van continues the mistake of abusing Origen's quote, since it is likely referring to whoever recorded or at least the amanuensis of Hebrews but not the author/speaker, I thought it would be good to see what Origen actually...
