God is Completely Sovereign or in Control of EVERYTHING that happens.

you realize that applies just as much to your OP as it does to my post and as it does to your response to my post? Which means no discussion by humans ever has any value! But God said, “Come, let us reason together.” Even God wants to relate to us, even as He related to Adam in the Garden...

God is Completely Sovereign or in Control of EVERYTHING that happens.

I think you need a better definition of “sovereignty”. It doesn’t mean to have everything under complete control, nor does the book of Job support that. God gave Satan permission to afflict Job, but He didn’t tell him how to do it—just the limits Satan had to abide by: spare his person (the...

God is Completely Sovereign or in Control of EVERYTHING that happens.

Redemption is when we rise from the dead, never to die again. We are redeemed from the power of death, otherwise known as the gates of hell. While In this life, we are promised redemption, but it isn’t fully realized until the resurrection. But that’s a little off topic for this thread.

God is Completely Sovereign or in Control of EVERYTHING that happens.

God chose to send His Son. We choose to believe. God’s choice is that all men believe. Most men choose not to believe. God, in your poor analogy, is the owner of the grocery store, and the supplier of the groceries. Believers are the employees, and unbelievers are the customers. Some choose...

You need to read my post, and the one I was responding to more carefully.

Assuming your preconceptions are really what God meant to convey is irrational.

Where was Jesus for 3 days?

The other option is that Jesus was actually dead for 3 days. As in no life, no thought , no activity, just dead, and in the grave. That fits the other understanding of “hades”, and allows for David to still be as he was, dead and buried. And it allows for Paradise to be where God is, rather than...

God is Completely Sovereign or in Control of EVERYTHING that happens.

Your focus is wrong. Of course God exercised His sovereignty to protect Job in the face of Satan’s incitements. But can you answer about God’s sovereignty over the other characters in the drama? Were Job’s 3 friends’ completely under God’s control? How do you know from the passage? How could...

Where was Jesus for 3 days?

I asked a valid question, and you call me silly. I pointed out that you are interpreting beyond what was written, based on additional words in your interpretation, and you claim I’m the one that doesn’t believe what is written. Maybe your “apparentlies” are not as apparent as you’d like to...

Where was Jesus for 3 days?

There you have it @robycop3! That’s where the appeal to common sense takes you. Are you sure you want to go down that road?

Where was Jesus for 3 days?

Did He say “Your spirit will be with my spirit in Paradise”? If not, then it’s your interpretation. And you should go read what you said about men’s interpretations.

Where was Jesus for 3 days?

Ah, I see. Whatever you think is true is “COMMON SENSE”, so you don’t have to search any further for truth. I thought our standard was biblical support for our positions. But even if Jesus knew they would die that day, He’s not talking about death, but about resurrection. And neither of them...

I agree with you here, and was responding to timtofly.

God is Completely Sovereign or in Control of EVERYTHING that happens.

I’m not going to be convinced just because you make the claim. Can you give me scriptural support? Or is God not able to describe Himself well enough, that someone needs to add to it?

Where was Jesus for 3 days?

Agreed that people will translate according to their presuppositions. Is it possible that the majority opinion is wrong, leading to most translations putting the comma before “ today”?

God is Completely Sovereign or in Control of EVERYTHING that happens.

Did God know how many hairs you would have before He decided to make the world? Jesus said The Father “numbers” the hairs. That’s another way of saying He counts them. Are you disagreeing with Jesus? There are lots of verses that say God knows things by observing them. Psalms 139:1 (KJV) O...

God is Completely Sovereign or in Control of EVERYTHING that happens.

When does God ordain men to follow their sinful desires? Before they experience those desires or after? If before the beginning of the world, how does God know a particular person will have particular desires?

Where was Jesus for 3 days?

I’m not satisfied with that idea, because Jesus was to be in the tomb for 3 days. He didn’t say He would be resurrected immediately. Lazarus was resurrected before that time, as we’re others, so there are already more resurrections than you allow for. Plus, Paul was definitely speaking to...

Where was Jesus for 3 days?

I’ll try to explain my position again, @robycop3. If Jesus said “I tell you today, ‘You will be with me in Paradise.’” the word “today” is an expression of when the thief was saved—that day on the cross when he confessed his sin and asked Jesus to save him (“remember me”), rather than when Jesus...

Where was Jesus for 3 days?

And as I pointed out, according to Peter, David has not benefited from the same thing the thief benefited from. So why is the thief different from David? Don’t we want our interpretation to be informed by the whole of scripture?
