1 Corinthians 2:14 does not teach total inability

That's what I have attempted to lay before him, but it either goes WOOSH over his head, or he has a stubborn nature that will not allow him to admit he has been clearly in the wrong.

And my last planned installment from Dr. Robert Thomas : How To Choose A Bible Version. Here is a snip regarding the ESV: "The version calls itself an essentially literal translation and therefore rates high as a basis for Bible study in the category of philosophy of translation. Yet it does...

Continuing with Dr. Thomas : "The practice of using italics or brackets for the purpose of singling out words that are only partially implied is declining. Most translators judge that an implication of the original is sufficient to justify the presence of such words and to express them in the...

From the Dr. Thomas book : "The New Revised Standard Version has received praise for its particularity in expressing thoughts in American English. It will appeal to American readers more readily, but that does not mean it will have no appeal to those in other English-speaking countries." (p.129)

1 Corinthians 2:14 does not teach total inability

One without the Spirit of God is not a believer. You need spiritual discernment because you don't have the ability to distinguish things. The person in 2:14 is unsaved. The person in 2:15 is a believer, possessing the Holy Spirit. Those in the category of 1:18 link up perfectly with that of the...

I will be citing a number of things from Thomas' book. On page 86 he says there is a "growing constituency in support of the Alexandrian supported translations. When all is said and done, the stronger evidence in all probability supports this category of readings as being closer to the very...

'How Gender Neutral Bible Translations Endanger Christian Marriage

You poor, deprived child. I have done threads on it in the old days before I reinvented myself as Rippon2. :-) It was originally called The New Berkeley Version New Testament. But with the passing of time the entire canon was translated and published in 1969 as The Modern Language Bible. It's a...

I have quoted from this book before : How To Choose A Bible Version by Robert L. Thomas. I met him once and had a brief talk with him while at Grace Community Church. In one section of the book he reviews a number of English Bible translations. Regarding Today's English Version he states : "It...

"I think that it is fair to conclude that in terms of translational philosophy the ESV is closer to the NIV than to the NASB....Contrary to some, I do not view the NIV as a functional equivalent translation as to its basic nature...Although the NIV explicity acknowledges that it is not always...

This was the contribution of nine people. I didn't see Grudem's name. It is extremely picayune. There are no core doctrines mentioned. At first the TNIV is accused of 3,686 'inaccuracies.' Then, one page later the figure jumped to 3,699. That's sloppy. It was said that the 2011 was 25% better...
