    Ephesians 2:8-9

Saving faith comes by hearing GOD'S inspired truth, not irresistibly so, but still as a direct result of God's work. In that sense, faith is FROM GOD.

    Calvinist Hats On

Too many violations to continue this one.... Sorry, time to close it.

    Ephesians 2:8-9

Do they need to agree with your interpretation to be considered a "heavyweight? Why would I want to detach faith from salvation? As one commentator notes, even if the point is conceded that the phrase "this is not of yourselves" is in reference to faith, it doesn't contradict an Arminian's...

Is there really a Calvinistic resurgence?

So when you said, "Satan does it -- but so does God," you meant the philosophical system called Compatibilism, that is weird? Satan does compatibilism? Clearly we are talking about the "evil deeds" that you say aren't "evil" when God does them, I included the whole quote even with that...

    Ephesians 2:8-9

How about I allow Barnes to answer? And that not of yourselves - That is, salvation does not proceed from yourselves. The word rendered "that" - τοῦτο touto - is in the neuter gender, and the word "faith" - πίστις pistis - is in the feminine. The word "that," therefore, does not refer...

Is there really a Calvinistic resurgence?

Of course I don't want you to say that God caused evil, as Luke obviously did whether he intended to or not. I DON'T want you to say or believe such things and I'm attempting to show you that to be a Calvinist you don't need to take it that far. Just answer the question, or point me to the...

    Ephesians 2:8-9

On this point, I agree with John Calvin who wrote: "And here we must advert to a very common error in the interpretation of this passage. Many persons restrict the word gift to faith alone. But Paul is only repeating in other words the former sentiment. His meaning is, not that faith is the gift...

Is there really a Calvinistic resurgence?

I directly quote you IN CONTEXT of talking about the "ORIGIN OF EVIL" and you call me a liar? Really? Are you claiming that you weren't talking about "evil" in these quotes? Because you do know those posts are still there for all of us to read, right? Are you sure you want to still call me...

Is there really a Calvinistic resurgence?

I'm still not sure what your view actually is. What is the "allowing plan of God?" I affirm that God allowed evil and did not originate it. I believe evil originated in Satan, not God. Do you agree or not?

Is there really a Calvinistic resurgence?

God, obviously God's knowledge of what Satan will do is not equal to God originating the intent to do the evil, is it? So, you agree that the evil originated in Satan? How? Can a creature originate something? And if so, doesn't that inform God and thus undermine your view of sovereignty?

Is there really a Calvinistic resurgence?

Ok, so the intent came from Satan, but where did he get it? Did it originate in him or did God originate it and put it there?

A Bronze Snake on a Pole

Because those who are bitten represent mankind who has fallen and need help. Jesus came for those who are sick, not those who are well. We know that all have been bitten by sin, but that doesn't mean they know it. I believe those who haven't been bitten by the snake represent those who think...

    How Calvinists are like Charismatics

No, you and I haven't discussed it to my recollection. Maybe. You certainly have a good spirit about you and I'm much more likely to learn from you because of it. :)

Is there really a Calvinistic resurgence?

Two different questions. The first question asks where the intent originated, while the second question asks who, by his own authority, allowed it. The answers are different to each of those questions in my view and I want to know if they are different in yours as well. God didn't not...

Does the bible teach that glory and honor is unique to God?

I have read that, but it has been a long time...a very long time. Piper was one of my theological heroes back in my "Calvinistic" decade. :) I even had him come speak at one of our conferences. He is a very humble and Christ-like man. I have great respect for him and I always will. Even...

    How Calvinists are like Charismatics

I concede that point. But, just so you know I bookmarked your post for the next time I get in a discussion about John 6. :)

Does the bible teach that glory and honor is unique to God?

All my life I've heard preachers/teachers/authors talk about how man is to receive no glory or honor, but that God is to get it all. As if, any glory or honor shown to man is somehow wrong. But, is that what scripture teaches? Philippians 2:29 Welcome him in the Lord with great joy, and honor...

Is there really a Calvinistic resurgence?

Good question. Who put the evil intent in Judas' heart? Who put the evil intent in the heart of Jeff Dahmer? Who put the evil intent in the mind of Satan before his fall? Who put the evil intent in the mind of Adam and Eve before they disobeyed? I say they originated it as free...

A Bronze Snake on a Pole

Maybe that was what James was talking about when he wrote: "...each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death." Sounds like what the bite of sin...

Is there really a Calvinistic resurgence?

P4T, Here is the definition again: The decrees are eternal (Acts 15:18; Eph. 1:4; 2 Thess. 2:13), unchangeable (Ps. 33:11; Isa. 46:9), and comprehend all things that come to pass (Eph. 1:11; Matt. 10:29, 30; Eph. 2:10; Acts 2:23; 4:27, 28; Ps. 17:13, 14). The decrees of God are (1) efficacious...
