What is your opinion regarding the English Standard Version of the Bible?

There is a couple verses in CSB that could have and should have been different. I suspect that some of that will change in an update. But even if it doesn't, I do not write off a translation for a couple of "bad choices" if they don't effect practice or doctrine of the church. We can dig into...

What is your opinion regarding the English Standard Version of the Bible?

Why is the New International Version Bible translation so popular? What are your thoughts on that?

Anyone who has read commentaries knew what he meant. That is how most commentators interact with translations. I have never seen a commentary level a blanket charge of being full of mistakes. That being said, I have seen authors correct the NIV84 more than other translations. Some of this is...

New American Standard Bible 2020 Update

    NIV vs. ESV, Part 2

Compared to others such as the NASB,NIV and NLT, the ESV certainly in regards to rythm, prose poetry, vocabulary level and aphoristic quality is much more KJV like. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

Why is the New International Version Bible translation so popular? What are your thoughts on that?

However it was the NIV84, not the 2011 Leon Morris does the same thing with the NIV in some of his writings. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

    NIV vs. ESV, Part 2

The literary consultants were not trying to make it read like the NIV. They wanted the feel of the KJV while being as accurate as possible. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

Is the New American Standard Bible as "wooden" as some claim that it is?

I don't know why they would do that. The NIV and NLT own that market. *Are they really deciding that competing for readers against the ESV and NKJV is too hard and that they think they will have better luck agaisnt the NIV and NLT? Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

Is the New American Standard Bible as "wooden" as some claim that it is?

The NASB does seem bland in some verse compared to the KJV. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, it is just more straight forward. The NASB95 and NASB77 are both fantastic translations that may lack the "poetic" feel of the KJV and even the ESV, but it is really accurate. Sent from my SM-G965U...

John 3:16 Which do you prefer?

The majority of people I have interacted with read it as "so much." Preachers will paraphrase it as "so much". The Good News Bible reads, "so much". If it is not ambiguous, why do most people come away with different interpretation than we do? Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

John 3:16 Which do you prefer?

The point is it is ambiguous. Why go with an ambiguous reading when the Greek is clearer and we can make it clearer in English as well? Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

John 3:16 Which do you prefer?

They don't necessarily mean the same thing. If so is taken as an adverb, its meaning would be "so much" or "so great" You are reading it as a conjunction. The meaning is dependent upon the reader. The rendering "so" is to ambiguous for the modern reader and current language usage. Sent from...

John 3:16 Which do you prefer?

They don't necessarily say the same thing. "For God so loved the word" is ambiguous and the Greek is not. Many of people read that verse as "For God loved the world so much". It seems to be drawing the emphasis to the quality/quantity of His love, when the verse is actually showing the result...

Regarding John 3:16, which do you prefer?

Makes Jesus sound like a created being. It also misses what is at the heart of mongenes Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

Regarding John 3:16, which do you prefer?

"Only son", "one of a kind son" or "unique son". μονογενής (monogenes) is highlighting the uniqueness of of the son. It is saying no other is like Him. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

John 3:16 Which do you prefer?

Your second option is closer to the Greek. The first option can lead us to believe the text means God loved the world "so much"... But the greek οὕτως is telling us the manner in which God showed his love for the world. God loved the world "in this manner" or God loved the world "in this way"...
